Maybe they should just make a rule and not allow the current cars to be used for media purposes during the season, pre season go nuts! McLaren used an MP4-23 for their media day at Bathurst, which bare in mind was done with promotion for Vodafone. They could have run the MP4-26 just to get an idea about their untested revised exhaust but didn't.

Doing things like this irks me more than a flexy wing or any other innovation. Because that's what F1 is about, pushing the boundaries of what's tested to a point where the FIA has to rethink what they have to test. But using a media day as a test day, that's just low.

What did I say? :hehe:

I read an article where a town that was strapped for cash couldn't fully man their jurisdiction, so they figured out that they could put a cut out picture of a police car partially hidden behind a billboard and the motorists would still slow down. Fascinating.

All eyes will be on Ferrari this weekend.

It's actually kewl that Ferrari can get so much attention from a media filming day.

Not one picture, image or video out of all the shots taken to shown anything new was added to the car - that turns into "Ferrari at it again" :hehe:

Which of course completely begs the question of why on earth Ferrari would dream of trundling out all their new bits during a media day when they already had scheduled a private test session the very next day. I can just see that discussion....

"should we wait until tomorrow and test in private all the new bits during our formal test session when we can add all the wiring, additional units and other measuring bits along with the flow viz while we do the constant speed runs necessary"

OR

"should we put them on the car today, when we can't measure anything, but we can be sure that every man and his dog with a camera will take copious shots of everything new"

"I agree with you Stefano, lets put it all on for the media day"

It's the same principle though surely. Pushing the boundaries is pushing the boundaries, not as clever though even if Ferrari are bending the rules, but unless you think there's something inherently wrong with them trying to test, what's the difference?

It's hardly the same thing.

A couple of days ago I ran across something that was talking about HRT, and said their budget is 33 million, as compared to Ferrari's 170 some odd million. Given those numbers comparing them to the big dog teams, it's remarkable that they can produce a car that's well within the 107%.

Sorry for posting it here, but they were directly compared to Ferrari's budget. Even with Ferrari's budget I think Red Bull is the biggest spender on the grid according to articles written last year after they divided up the year's profit.

Why not? If they're bending the rules for a competitive advantage why should it only count when its clever?

If you call using a media day as a test day clever then no wonder Ferrari are having problems.

Wrong way round, by count I meant the flexi front wing counting as pushing the boundaries apparently if Ferrari used their new car it just counts as cheating.

Not that I actually work for Ferrari, so I doubt it matters to their success.

Ok, what did I miss? Did ferrari test something? Where are the photos?

Because any data is good data.

If they can run it today even in "media spec" and they get a bit of useful info then its worth it.

It is cheating though like Bud says Mclaren use Older 08 car for media days why can't Ferrari?

Exactly right, this wasn't a legitimate media day.

Because there is no rule saying they have to? If they aren't breaking any rules, why is the McLaren camp so up in arms? Several times now someone has said they were running new parts but when asked which parts, who said so, where are the photos....nothing but silence.

Seriously guys, why must you always cry cheat, or foul when none exist? Ferrari will surely get caught cheating for real sooner or later, but if you scream cheat at the top of your lungs every time they sneeze..nobody will believe you when its actually true.

I thought it was well established on here, there isn't really a spirit of the rules, f1 is about competition.

I doubt the media reception will be the same if they used an old car anyway, maybe they wanted to plug the 150 Italia thing.
