Even if he is dead; it will not stop the terrorist threat, this may be hailed as a victory in the west but in reality he will become a martyr and will inspire a new generation of terrorists. Yes he will be seen as a Martyr, religious brainwashed people are hard people to get a message across too especially when they see death in a different light. Al Quaida is losing its leadership, its not easy to replace someone who was seen as a religious figure, the uprising in the middle east nations i think shows there is a swing away from traditional islam fundamentality.
But will the war on terror will not end with this? no sir! But what message has been sent is that if you attack the US or its allies you will pay a price. Up until now Osama has gotten away with 9/11.

One man could not have achieved such a feat as 9/11 in the US and 7/7 in the UK; I'm sure there is a chain of command which will step up and become he next Bin Laden. I agree that Islam is changing but while there are still fundamentalists out there propagating the the Al Qaeda/terrorist philosophy, recruiting new members that are willing to lay down their lives for the cause, the war on terror is an impossible war to win. Just look at Iraq; Saddam Hussain has gone but his supporters are still there bombing targets and taking lives.

No, but one man can fund it. He was extremely wealthy. Of course, there is no shortage of wealthy families in the middle east, but hopefully it will at least take a while for the next one to dump millions into the venture.

From the reports it was a normal above ground house surrounded by very high walls in the middle of a Pakistan well-to-do area!

We've already had a generation of terrorists and Osama has achieved martyr status even while still alive. So given that, I'd rather have today knowing that he's dead. than the uncertainty or yesterday.

What this does at least to the American people, the families affected by 9/11 directly or indirectly and to the world at large is give this phase some sense of closure, and some sense of justice. Regardless of the next phase. I think Muslims as a whole have realized that it's far easier to revolutionize their own government and affect their own leaders realizing what their oppressive regimes have netted than it is to vilify western culture as their enemy.

I understand the whole 'closure' thing; but I fear this will spark a new threat; the UK has already been put on high alert; I fully expect recriminatory attacks on the US and Europe very soon; probably not on the scale of 9/11 (I sincerely hope to never see such horror again) but smaller attacks on government buildings and maybe even high profile civilian targets!

Also, anyone see that story about NATO forces killing Gaddafi's kids and grandchildren? Dont worry, it was easily eclipsed by this.

If you're saying that the last 10 years have seen a colossus waste of lives and resources, I agree. The second part is confusing though... are you trying to say anything else with your statement? It reads as if you were hoping for a bigger "show".
