Seems there's no middle ground! People either look forward to it or detest the idea.

It's tradition and it's a vital part if British culture, not to mention the bloke getting married is going to become the head of state for countries across the globe!

Its a waste of money celebrating some other persons wedding.

Why should we, if i got married would there be a public holiday etc, nope its utterly pointless.

I'm glad of the fact i got 10 days holiday for 3 days taken but i feel for all the small businesses out there for which this is going to hurt.

No, but people forget how much the economy gains purely through the tourism, an event like this has good repurcussions into the next decade.

Also, its tradition, its a HUGE part of our history and will attract a global audience of 2 billion, the only other time audiences get that big is for things like september the 11th or the New Year Celebrations. Itd be nice to have such an audience on us for something good for once.

Whats more, i am the most liberal forward-thnking individual when it comes to politics and multi-culturalism etc, but if these islamic extremists get so much as a mile away from any royal procession on the day of the royal wedding, and get any international coverage from news outlets that humiliates this country on its big day, then i am going to flip out. I mean blow my top.

But I think the hereditary privilege and power associated with the monarchy is unsupportable from a liberal perspective. I guess this thread isn't about that though.

Im not so much liberal politically, couldnt care less for Lib Dems or their proposed policies.

I just have a really " do what you want attitude" "wasted" 15 quid on a fat pizza and chicken wings, so what? Thats what i earn money for, to enjoy myself. Or, people taking drugs, so what, if they die they die from it. If they can honestly say they enjoy it, let them.

If i had more time id try and explain, cause that probably didnt make any sense.

But the idea of allowing people to do what they want (as long as it doesn't unduly affect others), implies that everyone formally has equal rights to do that they want. The monarchy is almost the opposite of that - dividing society into those who through birth have power or rights others don't.

I guess so, but like i said, im not politically liberal, well i technically am, most democratic nations on earth are by definition liberal, aka liberal democracy.

But the catch 22 is, if The Royal Family tell me to do something i dont want to, im supposed to have a dont care attitude, If i dont do it, im giving to much of a f*&* when i dont want to, and if i do, im no longer living under a liberal society nor liberal myself.

As it stands they hae no power whatsoever and give us all millions to spend in tourism, i say keep em'.

No power? I disagree, its a bank holiday tomorrow, the queen meets the prime minister every week and regular meets many other important politicians. It's her decision who gets national honours I think? The queen's speech and I think the most concerning is that its her who chooses the prime minister - what about if its a hung parliament and complicated?

Not sure where the UK stands legally, if the queen was to refuse to sign legislation or call an election or something.

If the Royal family tells you to do something, I'd say its fine to care about their right to tell you. Up to you of course.
