It's a Formula One forum for heavens sake! I thought that living in America now I could avoid all the pomp and ceremony; a whole day of TV dedicated to two people getting married, ARGH!!!! :banghead:

I'm with you on that. Idk why it's on our news. And if it was our president's kids or whatever I wouldn't give a :censored: either. Hell, I hardly care when people I know are getting married  Ya it's all ridiculous giving people a bunch of attention cuz they happen to have a certain somebody's name...waste of time

You guys might just as well be arguing why people make such a big deal about Coca-Cola, since it's just sugar water. The Royals are an industry, a brand, and I'm sure this wedding will fill their coffers by a few BILLION.

Even the existence of this thread is pissing me off.

Seems there's no middle ground! People either look forward to it or detest the idea.

It's tradition and it's a vital part if British culture, not to mention the bloke getting married is going to become the head of state for countries across the globe!

It's more of a figure head role though with not much if any power attached to it.

Yeah, which ties in with the tradition part :D

You can practically slap your c*ck in the queens face nowadays and nothing more would be said for how powerless she is.

I don't get the day off so won't be able to watch it, I'm sooooo disappointed. Suppose I could get myself a Wills and Kate mug to make up for it.

not really. i'm pretty midground on the idea. i dont see it as the fairest thing, but dont detest it at all. i wish they did more humanitarian stuff and actually worked at something... but i think they deserve some respect and carry out a decent-ish job as a symbol/representative of a whole group of nations.

Its a waste of money celebrating some other persons wedding.

Why should we, if i got married would there be a public holiday etc, nope its utterly pointless.

I'm glad of the fact i got 10 days holiday for 3 days taken but i feel for all the small businesses out there for which this is going to hurt.

Your only a Queen on the forum though Gaz :hehe::whip:

No, but people forget how much the economy gains purely through the tourism, an event like this has good repurcussions into the next decade.

Also, its tradition, its a HUGE part of our history and will attract a global audience of 2 billion, the only other time audiences get that big is for things like september the 11th or the New Year Celebrations. Itd be nice to have such an audience on us for something good for once.

Whats more, i am the most liberal forward-thnking individual when it comes to politics and multi-culturalism etc, but if these islamic extremists get so much as a mile away from any royal procession on the day of the royal wedding, and get any international coverage from news outlets that humiliates this country on its big day, then i am going to flip out. I mean blow my top.
