Just read through this entire post and FRAFPDD you are either a wind up merchant ,or clearly wasn't around in the years 1984-1994.Nearly all your statements are about what you see in record books ,they don't always show the full story.
On another note why are so many Senna fans getting wound up over this thread
It's about getting the best out of a car not saying Vettel is the greatest thing since sliced bread
Who could i possibly be trying to wind up? Senna fans?
If you dont do anything less then catch a tan on the rays of sun coming out of Sennas a*se they get pissed off, they are THEE most fanboyish fans of anyone, not Alonso, Hamilton or Schumi.......Why Senna fans are given the right to act like total tools and disrespect any driver they wish just cause their driver cannot be attacked by a de-facto law which deems those who break it a heretic i dont know.
Im sorry if that goes totally against the grain of 99 percent of people but i do NOT find him as great as made out, the best driver ever, sure i can see exactly why that is, but nowhere near the level many claim. The level that he could drive todays HRT round the outside line of eau rouge past a red bull, or add 5 seconds to any car he drives.
As for the clearly wasnt around bit, no i wasnt, but your assumption is that anyone who didnt see it arent allowed to debate with anyone who did, im a shepherd, not a sheep, and im not going to be dictated what my thoughts are by people all with their own agendas/bias/nostalgia, that would most likely misrepresent what it was actually like. The races are widely available on dodgy sites, but theres a whole library's worth to go through, and ive seen enough to know half of what im talking about.
Irony is after all the dust is settled, Senna (believe it or not i dont care) is my favourite driver just behind Prost, which goes to show just how bad this godlike status of Senna is, that one of his fans looks like a hater, purely cause i dont kiss his a*se.
No it wasn't a case of I don't think anyone that wasn't around at the time can have an opinion. It's just some of the things you put in this thread are in my mind wide of the mark.
I'm one of Senna's biggest fans and I rate him as one of the best ,not the best that's silly, you can't compare drivers of different era's for reasons like you have put earlier in the thread for a start. His qualifying was breathtaking at times though, even other drivers said they liked watching it in the pits.
Yes I agree there probably is to much hype regarding Ayrton at the moment, the film will take it even further when it's out (over here)I'm sure ,You will also see Prost wasn't a saint either.
You will also see that if a race wouldn't of got cut short in Monaco 1984 he would of won the race in the slowest car on the grid, after making his way through the field.Trouble is Prost cried to the stewards waving for the race to be stopped.Ayrton did win that race but the result was taken from the lap before.
Don't get me wrong I can take people saying things about him when they are correct.Yes he was aggresive, too much at times ,bordering dangerous. But that was all part of him.I suppose the best way to say it would be a reckless self belief behind the wheel Martin Brundle's words not mine.
Don't be fooled by the fact there was no downforce sometimes cars tried getting away from drivers in a straight line, let alone a corner.
You will find that 1993 you say Senna was only known for going through the field at Donnington.Well that year alone he only set one pole on the grounds the williams was so much better(it took all bar one pole, even with Prost driving it

),he was normally only on the 3rd row,yet he had 5 race wins,if it wasn't for car failure would of had more.
When it rained I think he might of even won in a 3 wheel van,,going through the field then like a knife through butter.Enzo Ferrari saying he defied the laws of physics the way he had the car dancing.
Also Ayrton had a reputation for if you see him coming up in your mirrors you had to make out how badly you wanted to finish the motor race,so when it came to back markers if they didn't let him/see him by he sometimes knocked wings off and had to make his was back through the field,(there wasn't the 3 corner blue flag rule then).
You also have to take into account cars broke down a lot more in those days, hense his pole to win ratio wasn't as high as you might expect these days.Sometimes not even 6 cars finished a race.Another instance you mention fastest laps, they were very rarely done by the race winners. It was normally someone coming in late for tyres that got that.
