I know that when you're in a race, not only the sights and the sounds are a visceral part of the experience, but also the smells. I've wondered, how does a modern F1 car smells like?

I've never smelt racing fuel before but I would imagine a very VERY strong gasoline smell and with a mix of burnt rubber.

In the pits, it generally smells of all the cleaning solvents and aerosols you use around the car. And the aromatics from the fuels.

I found after a race, the smell of hot oil, and the smell of still warm tyres (hard to describe) & brakes are the most obvious....

Funnily enough, the cockpits themselves don't necessarily smell, until the bloody driver farts while you are strapping him in. Guess how I know that one.... :yikes:

Just go and smell a go kart car which is back after a few rounds...its similar.
