It's impossible to know how Vettel's talent compares to Senna's as they come from totally different eras.

What is certain however, is that Vettel;

* is highly talented
* is a worthy world champion
* seems like a very nice chap

In Vettel, Hamilton and Alonso, we have three amazing racers at the top of their game. 8-)

It's bin a long time since I've seen a good post like this! :yes:

Vlad, go through this thread from the beginign and you'll find at lead a dozen posts to the same effect. OK... maybe not directly calling Vettel a nice chap. :hehe:

Vettel fans, don't fret it's just the way it is with success. Even if Vettel in the next couple of years manages to outscore two different WDC winning teammates... he'll still have detractors posting crap on forums. :wink:

Mr Burning, can i ask that you name those that are posting crap? I think everything ive said of Vettel in here is subtley complimentary.

That answer to what's burning will be revealed some day. :hehe:

In the mean time The post is intended as a general good natures poke, as I don't think ANYONE here has directly said that Vettel is crap or isn't worthy of his WDC title or that he's not talented. The OP is very specific but it is simply an opinion, perhaps a premature opinion, but simply an opinion. You shouldn't assume everything posted here relates directly to you... I said detractorSSS and forumSSS.

In any case, I think my point is very valid... some people are simply never going to be pleased, or have a bias for whatever reason, and there's a handful of people here that get their feathers all ruffled when something complimentary of Hamilton is posted, I'm simply stating to Vettel fans to get used to it, success is a petri dish for criticism.

Er.....I know what you posted didnt relate to me :yes:

And actually, there are a couple of people that has directly said Vettel is crap :rofl:

That's why it's so good! :hehe::hehe::hehe:
But, honestly, it's nice to have impartial posts from time to time! :wink:
And, thanks for an advice, m8! :wavey:

I have to tell you that his post race interviews are funny. I think they're funnier when he's not on the top step of the podium for the umteenth straight time, but he's certainly comfortable and will say what comes to mind. The interviews after China were particularly funny actually. Even Webber got in on the action with the funnies in that one.

Yeah, noticed that one too... He kinda helps to ease up the atmosphere...
But, Webber's comment when they arived in China... Do you know about that? It's hilarious! :hehe:

again... the comparisons make only pointless/winningless/losingless arguments.

Vettel as good as Senna?? who knows... who cares.
He was better than everyone last season and is even better this one.

Care to argue about that? ^^ that would be a really short argument ;)

... and he's a nice chap.

(he was kinda rude in australia on his first interview; seemed itchy about gear ratios)

I think most people on here didn't read the original statements carefully enough, so here they are again:

"I am very lucky," Ascanelli told Sport Bild. "Twice in my life I have experienced perfection; once with Senna, again with Vettel. In one respect Michael was different because he had to work harder for his success than did Senna and Vettel. With those two it was something else."

Although stopping short of making similar comparisons, Gerhard Berger said he felt that the championship leader was now the most complete racer on the grid.

"Before the season began I thought Alonso was the best driver, but maybe now it's Sebastian," Berger said.

Nothing is really said about achievements, i.e., WDC, domination over a season, points, etc. The comparison stops at the perfection level and how it is achieved. Ascanelli says that AS and SV were/are more naturally gifted perfectionists while MS achieves similar perfection through harder work. And this may well be true right now and right here - no waiting for years of results to be able to compare. If Ascanelli says he's seen both, AS and SV and noticed they both have achieved the same level of perfection in their race craft (? he didn't really specify to what that perfection pertains, so I'm extrapolating here), then I can't help it but to give him the benefit of the doubt and believe him for now. What SV might make of his achieved perfection in terms of results and domination and so on, that what builds the legend, we'll have to be patient for some years to find out.

Berger simply adds his assessment that he thinks SV may have surpassed FA as the best/most complete driver on the grid - again, a momentous assessment, a snapshot that is currently corroborated by the results table and our observations during the first 3 races, but this could change down the road.

So, bottom line in my view is that there's really no need for some of the AS fans to get their knickers in a twist about these statements by Ascanelli since they don't take anything away from AS (yet). They simply state that SV has mastered a similar level of perfection as AS. Of course it's somewhat implied that SV also has a similar level of potential for results in the future as had AS, but until now it has been just that: potential. A few years from now we might come to (or for the British: arrive at :wink: ) a more definite conclusion than this... :popcorn:

there is no doubt that vettel is a great driver, in the same league as hamilton and alonso, but i dont think anyone can reach the heights of senna, from what ive seen and heard, he sounded incredible......

he sounds incredible or he was incredible?

Sennas death was ironically the best thing that ever happened to him, as he's now immortalised as the unquestionable, untouchable, unreachable epitome of what an F1 driver should be.

Oddly enough from what ive seen and heard i dont think Senna was nearly as great as made out, not even close.

You sound a bit cruel with that but I see your point. Something like Heath Ledger as well actually, he was a good actor, a very good one but his untimely death after his best performance in Dark Knight has already got him down as a fallen 'legend'. When many other actors have proved so much more than he has done.

It's all about the perception the person leaves behind...Senna drove fantastic and died prematurely. It doesn't mean the drivers after him cannot be as great or even greater.
