Who should have I supported?
Here's how it went, F1 was blasted onto the headlines of the worlds newspapers after Jerez '97. I started surfing the net on F1, joined an internet chat group and started talking about F1. Schumacher seemed like the most interesting driver to me because he caused such a reaction in people, they either followed him blindly or hated him with every bone in their body.
After I watched him race, and you have to admit Spud 98,99,2000 was a very exciting time to be watching F1, I was totally hooked. I started buying old season reviews and downloading legacy races and got the most enjoyment out of watching Schumacher.
Frentzen and Hakkinnen also gained my respect. Frentzen because he was so cool and funny. Hakkinnen because he was the only driver Schumi truly feared and respected...
That's how it went mate, and a lot of other people jumped on the Schumacher bandwagon in a similar fashion. Schumacher is the reason why Bernie's pockets are so fat, people tuned in to see the Heroes vs Villains story that was F1 when Schumacher was around...
And what an expectional Villain he was Spud, fast as lighting, arrogant, egotistical and exciting to watch, what more do you want from an F1 driver?
