Ferrari, like McLaren have had their fair share of bad starts to a season in years gone by. Putting their massive rivalry aside, the thing that connects both teams is their ability to turn around bad seasons. They're both hugely experienced in success, and the pressure to maintain that standard will most likely always keep them near or at the top.

I don't think Ferrari will go the whole of 2011 without a victory myself. Their car is better in race-trim, it seems.

Tifosi or not, no one wants them to go a season without them competitively challenging for podiums or a win regularly.

What I've found really odd is that Alonso is usually the kind of guy that grabs a bad car by the horns and wrings every drop of performance out of it. So you would think that if Alonso can't make that car cook, the car is a piece of junk.

But Felipe seems faster than him, so the car can't be rubbish.

Things that make you go "hmm".

My role in this thread was to reassure the Ferrari club to chill, Redbull are not going to coast to the Championships as Mclaren still exist. I'm sure you guys prefer to see your old nemesis taking the titles, rather than the haughty new boys on the block with their annoying front wing flexing away in happiness. :hehe:

There's nothing hmm about it...Alonso is thought as the best by many because of stats. But when you take a look at how those 'stats' are achieved...1 year with no real competition (a fast and unreliable McLaren was not really competition since it can't finish!) and another year where he was being beaten only for unreliability to the rival to gift him another year. He's good and in the top 5, but his performance now is doubtful even for Top 5.

We saw last year that Ferrari can come back from being a fair bit behind. Whether or not it happens this year, we'll see.

If it's an aero issue, then that's something that I think can be addressed reasonably quickly.

As for the testing pace, I'd guess the difference between pre-season testing and the first race is that Ferrari's competitors had issues during testing that they solved for the race, rather than it being the case that Ferrari went backwards.

Yeah. And on top of that, they were using 2 tunnels. The car is said to have a 'fundamental' issue, in other words back to the drawing board and try and achieve a win or two this year.

Maybe the Tires do not suit Alonso, he tends to like a strong front end and may be the new tires are not pushing his buttons

I wounder if Ferrari want to turn this car around for the simple fact Alonso might have a claus in his contract, of WDC by the end of year 2 or he walks.

As far as I am aware no team would guarantee this in a contract. It would make no sense whatsoever.
