It looks like cooler conditions suit the Red Bull better; 0.7 seconds is a huge gap in F1 terms, I think McLaren's only hope is for a KERS failure on Vettel's car off the start; as a JB supporter I am very happy to see Jenson out-qualify Lewis; let's see if he can keep that advantage in the race. It seems that Mark's reputation of being the unluckiest driver in F1 is returning to him, having technical problems in the first three Grand Prix would definitely be classed as bad luck!

I only hope Lewis gets past Jenson at the start or we're in for one boring race....Jenson will be thinking of saving tyres for a tyre beauty contest after the race, and Lewis will be stuck behind, with Vettel sleep-driving his way to another victory.

Depends on your definition of boring, Jenson plays the strategy game which will often work out; Lewis' all out attitude is likely to be detrimental to his race as he'll need to stop more and may well end up behind Jenson anyway, have you not heard the story of the tortoise and the hare?

There was a shot of Lewis in the car ready for his lap from a top view, and I was like HUH?? Whats a Ferrari driver doing in a McLaren!??

I like the red, but don't care for the tribal pattern very much.

I think day-glo red/orange to match their cars would be much cooler.

I dont see his strategy game working out too often. If you'd use Malaysia as an example, Lewis wrecked his softs in qualifying and that did put him on the backfoot, but McLaren messed up by putting on some old primes which busted his race. Nothing to do with him killing his tyres early in the race, it was all under control just a mistake in the pits!

And I'd take the hare anyday, its the hare that comprehensively beat the tortoise last year with more misfortunes involved. And will do so again this year. Again, I'm open to a public bet.

Very disappointing to see Renault underachieve, i definitely think Petrov and Heidfeld should have been top 10, if not top 5.

I think we are in for a good race though. Too bad im going to miss it.

It's a radically different ball game this season, the tyres don't just go off; they fall off the edge of a cliff to the point of losing a handful of seconds per lap, conserving tyres this year is more important than ever, I'm not disagreeing that Lewis has much more raw speed but with the new tyres degrading so quickly being conservative can make the difference. There seems to be much less gap between the two this season so I don't expect to see two much difference in the points standing assuming that bad luck doesn't strike either driver. What happened last year is irrelevant really as it's a completely different playing field which might sway the balance of power towards Jenson; but only time will tell!

Only great drivers get into F1. Sometimes pure blind luck determines who wins the race. Sometimes even a series of races.

In 2009, Button got bloody lucky. The FIA bollocksed the tyre specs very near the start of the season, but Toyota (nee: Brawn) had it sussed. It took seven races before the competition produced a shadow diffuser competitive to Brawn's. Button failed to score a win, a pole or a fastest lap after the seventh race. That fact speaks volumes.

Over his career, Button has averaged one win in every 27 starts. In his career, he has taken eight poles, total. Eight. Those hardly are noteworthy numbers. Vettel has taken eight poles in the last 12 races alone. He took more poles in the 2010 season than Button had in the previous 10 seasons (AFAIK, 1 < 10). The season Button won WDC, Vettel took four poles. The following season, Vettel won WDC and Button took ZERO poles.

You can't distinguish a midfield driver from a world-beater so I don't know why it should surprise anyone you also don't recognise a "once-in-a-lifetime talent" when you see him. He's only 23 years old, for Christ's sake. Lighten up or you might miss, not just the greatest of our lifetimes, but the greatest of all time.

Sebastien Vettel is a phenom. This much is certain. Your blind devotion to JB does not, can not diminish that fact.

I agree with most of this. Its a new playing field, but I'd say Lewis has the talent to adapt to these changes. Time will tell.

No, I believe that if people keep spouting BS you have to keep telling them it's BS or they'll never get the message.

To wit: Saying any driver who won the world championship did not deserve to do so (For any reason other than cheating) is irrational and a self-defeating argument. Observe:

"So and so only won because he had the best car. Some other chap who won several more times is a legend!" Irrational. Some other chap won with the best car too.
"So and so only won once. This other chap did it more, so he is indisputably objectively superior!" Irrational. Formula One has too many variables at play for that to make any sense.
"So and so only won because he was lucky!" Now you're just being stupid, hypothetical person. Everyone who won the World Championship was lucky.

And I could go on.

Right so first time in two years i havent watched an F1 weekend session live, made the right decision, vettel/ RB7 races to an easy pole, hamilton doesnt beat button? Kobayashi not in top 10, schumacher not in top 10. sigh...................


Lets hope for the first time this year Hamilton being on the grippy side gets him past Jenson or else he'll be stuck behind him the whole race.

Hamilton's situation with tyres is a bit better, unless he makes the same mistakes again. I think the only factor tomorrow will be Vettel's KERS.
