As I said on the chat. We're not. You overreacted to a bit of banter between friends. Lighten up a little.

I don't think so. I've been watching this "banter" week after week, and I don't think it's all knowing and ironic. It gets tiring to see week after week people in the chatroom hoping that their competitors crash out, etc.

I like Vettel, but I also like poking others after his success... :hehe:
And, there is a lot of Hamilton fanboys here, so, there will be a lot of poking.

Personally I'm a Kobay, Hamilton, Sutil, Paul Di Resta, Webber, Vettal fanboy (there are a few others)
I slag off Vettal, I slag of Webber, I slag of them all but it's only ones opinion...

When he was sitting there I thought he may of farted or something and then the two guys with blowers came over & it made even more sense...

@ OP
Why don't you just ignore it if you don't like it / don't understand its a joke or just don't come into the chatroom
#251487
Oh not again. Didn't we clear this up in the chatroom? Nobody at any point said that they wanted competitors to crash out. Not a single person.

Are some people sick of seeing Vettel win? Yeah, I'm one of them. What's the problem with wanting a bit of variety?

When it comes down to it, you took a little joke, which had nothing to do with wanting people to crash out, and turned it into a McLaren witch hunt.

My comments are not just about today's discussion, but week after week season after season of this. I don't think it's light hearted for someone to say that they want to snap someone's finger off. And as for it being a "McLaren witch hunt", the vast proportion of this kind of comment comes from McLaren fans.

And this is only associated with McLaren fans? I take it you frequent Spanish Italian and German chat rooms for a proper broad insight week after week?

As I said previously, nobody mentioned crashing out in the chatroom. It was a bit of toilet humour, lighten up!

Oh dear God. Do you always take things so literally? It's a bit of light hearted banter, you're making out that we wish him actual harm. Learn to take a joke or, if you dislike our company in the chatroom so much, don't join us next time.

I'm asking a question. If it were a common culture among many different types of fans, then it would just be the way that F1 fans are. But, why are McLaren fans like this? It's a reasonable question to ask on a F1 forum.

I don't frequent Spanish, Italian, or German chatrooms, as I don't speak any of Spanish, Italian, or German.

My question was about the McLaren fans I see on this forum, versus the fans of other teams I see on this forum. There are other valid questions to ask, such as the racism against Lewis Hamilton seen in some countries a few seasons ago. But, just because there are other questions that I can ask doesn't mean that I shouldn't ask my question here.

I've been asked not to take things so seriously. But, it's still a valid question to ask why it's McLaren fans that act this way. Just as a more extreme example, how would McLaren fans feel if some of the racists involved in the appalling harrassment of Lewis Hamilton told McLaren fans to "lighten up"? Or that it was just a "joke" that McLaren fans didn't understand?

Oh, and there was no comment about people crashing out today because it was qualifying. But, I've frequently seen comments where people have wished that "their team's" competitors crash out in the race.

You seriously have no clue your accusations are he same with many fan bases, infact go read the Malaysian gp thread to see some comments from Alonso/Ferrari fans at their joy Hamilton didn't make the podium! :banghead:
#251498
FF63, are you seriously comparing racist remarks against Hamilton with someone joking that Vettel might be staying in his car because he pooped himself?

Then you really need to stop being such a pedant. Hyperbole is a perfectly valid rhetorical technique, and that is what is being employed.

I'm making an analogy. If you don't understand analogies, then it will make no sense to you. And it's based more on the comments where people wish crashes on others or say that they'd like to break Seb's finger off.

Honestly, I think you're seeing what you want to see. Every fan base has a variety of fans, we're not all alike. To say that all McLaren fans are disrespectful and wish harm upon other drivers is a massive sweeping statement. I find it as offensive when people make similar comments about Ferrari fans, Schumacher fans, Alonso fans etc. (Just to name some of the other common groups to be targeted). It's a form of prejudice and it's idiotic, to put it bluntly. Why can' we just accept that everone is different and team or driver preference has nothing to do with it. This argument seems to crop up again and again, somethimes it's "Why are McLaren fans this?", sometimes it's "Why are Ferrari fans like that?" and all of those threads are ridiculous.

To answer your other question, how would I feel about a racist comment? Well naturally, I'd find it extremely inappropriate and offensive but toilet humour is hardly the same as racism.

Analogies only work if the things you're comparing are, in fact, similar. In this case they are fundamentally different.

I'm talking about wishing that drivers have crashes, or that they'd like to snap someone's finger off. If you'd ever experienced direct threats of violence, you'd probably find such comments pretty high up on the offensive scale.

And while there is variations among fans of all teams, it does seem that when I see bad sportsmanship on this forum, it's almost always McLaren fans.
#251508
You're grouping McLaren fans into bad sports is in itself derogatory unintelligible un scientific drivel akin to racism! Well done FF63 always knew you had it in you! Would you like me to say all lesbian women are men haters or are all butch? Same thing!
