Has anyone mentioned this yet? I think this was a pretty good weekend for Massa.

You can't judge a book by its cover, supposedly, but Massa seems like the type of guy who is affected by things, mentally speaking. Honestly, he hasn't had a good weekend since his accident, and I think that's more psychological than anything else.

I think the little things matter for Massa, not as easy for him to write things off as it may be for other drivers. I think even being on top in Q1 for a bit goes a long way for him, stuff like that.

It should be said he drove a pretty good race, much better than Australia, or any races last season. He didn't look too out of shape ever, drove some pretty fast laps. May have been challenging for 5th (at the time) if it weren't for that bad pit stop he had.

Hopefully this is something to build on, never was a huge Felipe fan, but always wanted to see him return to his old self a bit, which I think is entirely possible. A win for him this year would make me very happy.

Sorry but you cant blame Fernando for that. You can watch the incident again on youtube and you clearly see that fernando was too deep to pull out and he would have made it stick but Lewis anticipated his move beautifully, as if he was reading his mind, i would say it was unavoidable and i believe you cant blame either of them.

I am a staunch McLaren fan, but I have to say I completely agree with you. Racing incident. Should in no way have been punished. Racing at such speeds makes things like that inevitable. All part of the spectacle.

Oh, I agree that the punishment was uncalled for.

it was because of the penalty But yeah he put on the primes and didnt have the pace. Jenson put 20 seconds on him after the stop when they were right together so it was clearly a major problem he was having. Hopefully in China they will have some primes saved for the race.

Hamilton finished 8th because of the 20 second penalty; Alonso didn't drop a place because he had more than a 20 second lead over the next car, the Sauber of Kobayashi. I'm not sure what happened with the tyres; all I can say is that after his third stop; his pace dropped off a cliff which caused the coming together with Alonso as he was falling back through the field!

I'm still in disbelief that the stewards ruled anything other than a racing incident, what's the point of a racing series if drivers are not allowed to race?

I've heard:

His car was damaged from Alonso

His penalty ruined his race

Mclarens fault for letting him use an extra set of options

His pace was bad on the primes

He gotstuck behind heidfeld and it ruined his strategy

He eats his tyres too quick.


See what I mean, I'm sure some people are just pushing an agenda suiting information, but from what I've seen it's Hamiltons Prime pace being dreadful, which doesn't bode well for the rest of the season if he's that slow on hards.

Yeah and if he wasnt stuck behind NH he might have had a shot at the win. But alas he came 8th.

I think what is happening with Hamilton is he's trying so hard to get pole he's breaking those tires. Flat spots galore.

I think he also ruined a set of Options in a qualifying or Practice, so he only had two sets for the race. He went O-O-P-P-P. It was the 4th stint where he started losing time - that was on his second set of Primes, and BEFORE the 'touch' with Alonso.

Others here have mentioned that the McLaren team thought his last pit (after the touch) was unnecessary and he could have toughed it out til the finish. Don't have a source or quote on that myself.

All in all, a lot of stuff went badly for him. The least of his problems was the penalty.

I haven't had the benefit of watching the race on TV yet, but, from my position, I thought Lewis's times, relative to everyone else were fine except for one set of tyres which he really lost ground on badly. Until I read Bud's post, I was almost certain his bad laps came on a set of options, and he seemed to really struggle on them. I just assumed it was a set he'd used in qualifying and had used most of them up in qualifying. When I heard he'd complained of the wrong tyres being put on, I just thought perhaps the team had put the wrong set of options on....

Back to the penalty, I think, to make things clearer, each driver should radio to the stewards, when they think they are close enough to pass, for their permission to try a maneuver. Their team should then submit blueprints (in triplicate) to the stewards with planned trajectories and track positions clearly marked, along with a powerpoint presentation on why it would be safe for them to do so. Once received, an expanded stewards committee will review the proposal and, if approved, will call the driver ahead and ask him to move aside. If the driver fails to yield the stewards will activate the ZAPPEDNUTS system. With ZAPPEDNUTS the stewards can activate the wires they have pre-attached to the last bit of testicles current F1 drivers have been left to use. These wires will be directly connected to the cars KERS, so if the driver fails to move over as requested ZAPPEDNUTS takes over. Red Bull drivers will have a 50/50 chance, but Ferrari and McLaren drivers are goners for sure.
