I know, 4 Billion posts on this topic already. We've analysed, discussed, argued over what facts the press have released and some of us have Degree's from the University of Google on this subject.

After reading McLaren Fan and Bud's posts over the last month or so I'm fairly convinced the dossier didn't help them in the design of the 2007 car. So, the question has to be asked, McLaren already had a fast car, and it was reliable, why did they use the dossier in the first place?

It's a fairly well documented fact De La Rosa and Alonso were sms'ing Ferrari' technical details, there were emails as well. They did use it...

yeah they talked of weight distribution in the emails, but that information can be gained by just looking at the cars, especially when a car gets lifted on a crane and looking underneath, studying how it balances on the crane etc. which Massa car did at the first race.
Secondly there was the talk of the gas that Bridgestone were giving Ferrari to help with tyre wear on the long runs. i cannot fathom why Bridgestone wouldnt be using this with every team infact they have a right to do so being the sole supplier.

all in all the emails showed that Coughlan was in contact with Stepney. Yes it was wrong to be talking about Ferrari as Pedro and Fernando were but they did not test what they talked of as it would have been useless to the MP4 22 as its a different chassis, has different wheel base. But to throw the team out of the constructors title for that was too harsh a penalty, plus the fine ontop FFS one or the other please!

As for the dossier well its a well known fact Stepney has been Brawns right hand man for many years. add to the fact Stepney and Coughlan both met Fry this year to discuss possibly joining Honda weighted now by Stepney's buddy Brawn being appointed team principal at Honda so the dossier perhaps was intended for use at a team that needed it the most.

From what I understand, the 'negotiations' in the WMSC were at a point where McLaren would be thrown out of both championships - BE weighed in and offered a compromise for the good of the championship race. The fine was instead of exclusion from the drivers championship.

Fantastic post acknowledging McLaren's rights and wrongs in the matter.
