i hate these kind of penalties. not only do they discourage risk taking and exuberant racing but they also make teams second guess whats happened and what will happen. eventually teams are going to be on the blower to Whiting more often than they're watching the actual race.

also i long for the day when i can watch the race, sod off out for the day and when i come home the result hasn't changed!

Harsh penalty....
a warning would have sufficed if they did commit those mistakes(I don't think they did)...

Luckily for hamilton and alonso, the penalties didn't have any major effect on the standings(alonso actually stayed on 6th place)

Undeniably harsh but incredibly stupid, too. The only conclusion we can draw from this is that if the car in front of you does a double blocking manoeuvre, and you hit it, it's your fault too for being too close.

What??

Personally, it was an awful race for me...only good part was Heidfeld nicking a podium.

And what a fantastic finish to the weekend, the most ridiculous penalties in the history of the sport (After Spa 2008 of course)....the stewards were absolute retards for handing out penalties to 2 guys who were doing what people EXPECT from racing cars.

A forgettable weekend....thank God the next race is next week.

another great drive from sebastian vettel, but just a quick message to you fans, dont get too excited just yet, there is awful long way to go and i think mclaren are chasing down hard, solid drive fron jenson button, good 2nd place, and lewis despite having a dissapointing last stint plus the penalty shouldnt be too dissapointed ( obviously its going to be raw for a few hours) but he will come back in china before the 3 week break to turkey, another good race from renault, but petrov, i thought he was trying to finish early :P and ferrai seem to have much stronger race pace than qualifying, mercedes look average.....

Great race, except for the fear of rain.

It looks like the Renualts are going to be quick this year, on the ground and the motocross jumps!

The numerous pit stops do make the race more interesting but it is harder to keep up with other drivers stops.

The DRS and KERS combined have definatly improved the overtaking.

Any body want to bet on how early SV wins the title this year? Monza?

Is that utter f*ck up likely to happen again with Lewis anyone? I couldn't hear my tv most of the race, I don't even know why he was so slow? Infact can someone tell me what actually happened with Hamilton?

May I add my belated vote that all the penalties were stupid. For Buemi, a drive through would have been completely sufficient. I didn't see Hamilton swerving enough to justify a penalty. And the Alonso thing was a pure and simple racing incident.

I hope it's just steward stupidity. I hope it's not that now the drivers can use DRS to do an artificial pass down the grandstand straight, that they're now going to move to get rid of all that inconvenient and occasionally ending in tears real racing.

Does anyone else keep having flashbacks of Petrov flying across the track (helmet bouncing), and have one of those snorty laughing attacks?

....and then when he jiggled the steering wheel :hehe:

His third pitstop was slow, which was why he was behind Jenson in third, but he was very slow after that pitstop anyway, Alonso caught up to him, tried to pass and damaged something of Lewis's car, but Alonso had to pit anyway for a new front wing which he damaged pretty badly.

Lewis then made a 4th stop, I couldn't see any work being done for damage (I was checking), so just for tyres I think - Benson's blog on the bbc said he made it off his own accord and the team thought he could've stayed out.

----

I still think redbull have the edge, Vettel was fine this weekend. Webber's having some bad luck though.

Ferrari's are half competitive in the race, damn Alonso, could've had that third.

Massa starts are good, and same with the first stint, but he seems to really go off later on, happened in Australia too. Just dropped back - was ahead of Alonso, but had a pitstop problem.

Some great overtaking, didn't really need the DRS I think.

Renaults are looking good. So are Sauber.

Yea it reminded me of the time the steering wheel came off on the Top Gear Limos. LOL

One of the commentator said it might have been damaged before the jump, but i doubt it.

That could have been a very bad accident (ie webbers flight)

I just read about the penalties ( and woke up).

I am not a Lewis Hamilton fan, but his penalty was uncalled for. Not to mention Alonso got to keep 6th.

I thought the penalty for pit lane speeding was a drive through also. Not a stop and go.

Great race today. Pity Alonso hit Hamilton, threw away podium. He should have been ahead of Button too had the pit crew not screwed up... Twice!

The penalties are a joke aswell. Even as an Alonso fan I didn't really see too much wrong with Hamilton's weaving. It was aggressive but fair.

Congrats to Vettel though, another superb race from him.

Great race today! However, I'd love to see a race where McLaren have a trouble-free run with no mis-haps. Hopefully, this will occur next week. 8-)

Di Resta is looking pretty handy in the Force India.

Mercedes? Well........

I've already accepted that Vettel is 2011 Word Drivers' Champion. Sure, we can talk about how there's a long way to go yet and lots of points to be earned yet, and mathematically speaking everyone, even the HRTs, could technically win it, but it doesn't much matter. That's all just hanging onto hopes and possibilities. Probability suggests Vettel for the championship win and talk about other contenders is just talk. For a fleeting moment I hoped it would be Vettel versus Hamilton through the championship but no matter how hard Hamilton tries he just falls short of his actual performance when it comes down to how many points he ends up with.

I was also dreaming that McLaren might actually be roughly on par, or pretty close, with Red Bull, but Red Bull were still doing so well even without KERS, so if they can get their crap together with KERS then McLaren isn't really right there with them. Then they can't seem to get their crap together in pit lane, it seems. I haven't read exactly what happened with the poor stop and Hamilton out on crappy tires, but that second-rate work isn't going to get their drivers to a championship win. They practically decided to just sit back and let Vettel walk off into the sunset with the championship.

Alright, maybe I'm not being entirely fair. Crap happens, sure. Maybe I'm just venting frustration and disappointment, but I am terribly disappointed. If Hamilton has a good weekend, I tend to be happier than usual afterward, but if he has a bad weekend, I tend to be a miserable :censored: for the week to follow.
