Actually McLaren and Lewis were given a free ride that race. I remember Kimi was keeping in touch with Lewis for the first 10 laps or so and the tension was building, until Ferrari's 'brainwave' came into play and they told him to pit for full wets (I think). It was race over from there, Kimi had to stop again to go back to inters...and Lewis was left all alone for the rest of the race.
