You could post a killer pole time and then do an out-hot-in with hards at the last minute, hoping your killer time won't be beat, or if you are assured there are maybe 2 guys left that might beat it you could then be in a good spot for the race. Your tire life could be an advantge, but then the hards might get you a poor start or poor first corner and you lose a few spots.

But its the tyres you set your fastest lap on isnt it, not the ones you finish the session on.
