Premium content so couldn't read it unless I paid one dollar.

I think we all know that Robert isn't coming back this year, he'll need a ton of rehabilitation to get not only strength but also improve tactile feeling and reaction in his hand.

I've had 3 bone/muscle/cartilage surgeries in my life and I will tell you that I feel the remnants of each and every one of them every day, especially with dropping barometric pressure. The work Robert has had done has been tremendous just to keep the hand attached! I can't imagine the pain he'll be going through on a regular basis for the rest of his life.

Varsha on SPEED did mention during the last race that Kubica is making amazing progress but a return this season I think is highly unlikely and he would be rushing his recovery/rehab which would not be in his best interest.

paypal me 50c and you can read the next bit of the post

"It's a shame. I'm sure Robert wishes us well, but it must be very frustrating for him. On the one hand he wants us to do well, but on the other hand he must be thinking about what he could have had. I just wish him all the best."

I read it and I don't think that there's a belief that he'll never be back (although it is quite possible), but I think the team have accepted that they will be running Heidfeld and Petrov for the whole year.

couldnt read it either..... we the cheapskates only got the article about Petrov he he

anyway.... no matter how fast Kubica is recovering i seriously doubt he'll be back this yr, and dont think he'll ever come back to F1.

Right now i have a broken hand and it hurts... i can only imagine Robert's pain must be 100x :(
i'm sure it'll take hom about a yr to fully recover, and by that time he'd have lost most of his form, new contenders will rise, and then his mental state must still be at a peak in order to perform in F1, not a small mountain to climb. The worst is... i can almost guarantee he was Ferrari-bound for 2012 with Fernando, which must have been a dream for either, and us fans. :(

The wording here creeps me out... seems to be a sick inside joke. Maybe I'm having a cynical day.

Thing is no-one knows EXACTLY how bad the injuries are, if you get me. We only have somewhat vague details, ie that the hand was 'partially severed'... but that is still quite a wide window of damage. On that basis i wouldn't like to predict a timescale, but i remain hopeful that he'll be back for next season at the latest, or maybe even for the final races of this season.

These guys have super human abilities to recover from huge accidents and injury :)

I think the crucial point is seeing how badly damaged the nerves in his hand are after the bone injuries heal. If he can't operate the controls in the cockpit to the standard that F1 drivers have to then, unfortunately, it would be difficult to see a return to F1.
May be a little early to say but, after seeing how well the car performed in Australia, I think Renault could have been the team to challenge RBR this season if they had Kubica partnering Petrov.

I would of though that the controls on the steering wheel could be adjusted to accommodate him

They could probably be adjusted to some degree, but if his fine motor control is gone that could mean then end, or at best mean he won't be as good as he possible could have. Obviously these are the kind of injuries you are never going to be back to 100% after. The question is how far off he will be.
