The DRS clearly worked in my opinion. Simply because overtaking isn't usually possible on that main pit straight. It's very rare to see overtaking there actually. But this weekend we seen a good few overtakes.

But sure thats what people wanted anyway. Something that doesn't make overtaking easy. But simply aids it.

I remember watching Massa coming up behind Buemi with the DRS on, and you could clearly see the speed difference. The pit straight was just too short. But on a track like Sepang, you could clearly see that he would've been right alongside him.

Agreed, the DRS was working. Australia is the worst track to test it on, next to Monaco. On tracks like Malaysia, Spa, China, its going to be too easy to overtake. Even for equally powered cars...just watch.

It was a good race overall, Vettel was just, PFTTT! he was quick and he desevred the win but I can't help but think what would of been if Hammy's board didn't break? He drove amazingly (LH) really was the surprise of the day, I was frustrated to see JB racing hard and aggressive what me and Paul asked for only to be defended off by an un confident Massa! On the lines of Massa? He is not confident what so ever and is lagging!! Dissapointing really, the second Ferrari! Being Alonso had a bad start but in the closing stages he drove superb. Webber's drive was not too great...

I honestly believe that given JB was not penalised and LH hadn't broke his board, we would of had a McLaren 1-2! Petrov finally got his podium which is awesome!

I have only today read about Sauber and am a little shocked...

Glad to see LH was not penalized.

The race out front was processional, but further back it was great! I believe the DRS helped cars get closer, but the main straight wasn't the best place for it. Perhaps leading into the fast turns 11 & 12, or just after on the run to 13.

Red Bull showed, much like Brawn in 09, that KERS isn't a necessity if the car is fundamentally quick enough. Having 20 kg extra down on the floor is always money for nothing, especially if like Red Bull, your car is 17km/h quicker through 11 & 12 than everyone else....

Just bummed out that Sauber got thrown out. To me after Petrov's drive, this was the feel good story of the race. No doubting Lewis' ability to carry that car the way it was. I don't think Vettel was going to be beaten in any case.

Regarding the tyres, throwing in Perez's single stop, I think the race raised more questions than answering them. Malaysian heat will give us a better indication I would think.

I also believe we need 2-3 races more to get a truer picture of the rule changes overall, although Vettel posting the quickest lap time ever, in spite of rule changes, means that lap records will be slaughtered once the circus gets back to Europe....

WTF is this!?

Barrichello: I wasn't actually trying to pass Rosberg...

Rubens Barrichello has confessed that he was not even attempting to overtake Mercedes Grand Prix rival Nico Rosberg in the accident that ended the young German's Australian Grand Prix today – but despite being one of only two teams to notch up a double DNF Down Under, the Brazilian is convinced Williams' promising new Cosworth-powered FW33 has considerable potential.

The most experienced driver in F1 history, Barrichello's scrappy Melbourne weekend was not one of the finer moments in his 19-year grand prix career, with an uncharacteristic spin during the second phase of qualifying leaving him beached in the Turn Three gravel trap and a lowly 17th on the starting grid. From there, on the opening lap of the race, the 38-year-old found himself edged wide – again in Turn Three – and sent across the gravel, dropping him to practically the rear of the field.

'Rubinho' went on to produce a stirring performance to scythe his way back up the order with all the passion, enthusiasm, energy and brio of a driver half his age – but as he rapidly homed in on eighth-placed Rosberg on lap 22, it all ended in tears, once more at Turn Three, as Barrichello clattered clumsily into the side of the Mercedes, pitching his Williams into a half-spin and precipitating his adversary's retirement shortly afterwards with smoke pouring from his car. He himself would last a further 26 laps before departing the fray with transmission woes.

“It was a tough race for us,” reflected the popular Paulista. “I was pushed out a little bit at the start, but then I had a good rhythm going and was doing quite a lot of overtaking until the incident with Rosberg. I wasn't planning on overtaking him at that point – I was defending from [Kamui] Kobayashi.

“I think we had one tyre with grip and one with less, so we had different braking points. Rosberg braked earlier, and was already in the middle of the corner before I could stop the car.
The '33' was competitive today, though, which is positive going into the next race.”

Seriously, is this guy high!? By right he should crawl over to the Mercedes garage and humbly apologise to Rosberg for such a braindead manouvre. Instead, he looks like he's blaming Rosbergs existence at the corner when Rubens has obviously - outbraked himself.

This guy always came across to me as a whiner. But it looks like he can't take facing up to his own mistakes as well. Maybe the pressure is getting too much...one completely idiotic mistake in qualifying and then another the very next day.

If I was Rosberg and saw this quote I would've gone and kicked Rubens teeth in.

Yeah that is a litle more realistic but given Hammy's board didn't break? he would of won I think, Vettel's biggest threat is Hamilton this year.

He's got the second bets odd's in bookies

also the DRS didnt really work that well either, whats your views now spanky?

My views haven't changed mate, it's a stupid gimmick that hasn't added anything positive, it adds a danger (albeit slight) to drivers.

Get rid of it ASAP. And while we're at it, get rid of KERS - or in the case of Red Bull KES

With those views... Red Bull loves you!

It clearly doesn't work as seen by Button/Massa battle; the only time I saw a *so called* successful DRS pass was on cars that were slower than the overtaking car anyway. As for KERS I can see the majority of teams abandoning it before mid season if not before. if you want overtaking; remove the wings altogether, reduce the power of the brakes for bigger braking distances.

Were we watching the same race?

You say the DRS didnt work that well? Its not supposed to work really well, as really well would be creating an overtake, as oppose to its design specification of helping one. The only one i saw that didnt work was Button on Massa..... Even then he was faster then Massa and catching him, only enough to enter turn 1 directly behind his car. Australias straight isnt the best considering the entry to it and its length, and still we did see overtakes.

Think Vettle should be DSQ.

If there was Grass or Gravel in that area he would of been out.

From what I can see in that pic, Vettel lengthened the circuit, unless its covered by regulation changes, thats never been penalised.

He was clearly out of the circuits bounds, this is what JB got done for.

He needed to do that because of the extra speed he was carrying.
