JV was close after winning pole and leading in his first race only to have to yield to DH due to some oil leak...

Indeed. I think he has come the closest in modern times. Jeez i remember watching that race and it was 15 years ago now... and i'm only 24! :hehe:

Has any rookie ever scored points in his first F1 race (Sergio Perez DQed)?

Hamilton, Vettel, Webber, Bourdais, Buemi and Villeneuve are just a few that I can come up with.

Do you know whether a rookie has won in his first race ever?

I suppose if you counted Farina as a rookie in 1950, then yeah.

 I know, thats what im saying, but theres no need for sour grapes from a couple of guys cause he drove well. Also, you said intially his drive was "ok" so.........maybe you were peeved at the results or what, but you did say ok, i think it was more then ok, not much. But more then "ok", unless of course you feel Hamiltons standard of driving is so damn high that anything less then a win is poor

He did all the hard work on saturday.

sour grapes?? wtf are you on? his drive was ok, good, not great... 2nd place is always great, so in that case it was a great result on an ok drive.

so he did all the hard work on saturday? does that mean that sunday's work was not hard?
isnt that what i have been saying?

So much hate for Hamilton already and its only the 1st race.

dont [look that much into things] :) making stuff up from where there's none.
good, poor, great, ok, hatred.....

You are aware Nick's car was badly damaged in a first lap incident right?

yeah, and he had traffic in Q; But what can you do....... when you see everything (incl. how the teammate did but not exclusively because) you could say Petrov's drive was great.

Now.... this race is over so unless there is some controversies to discuss ;) i'm out and awaiting sepang.

You praised Vettel's drive even though it wasn't exactly better than Hamiltons especially considering Hamilton had a broken car and was matching and at times catching Vettel, and you praised Alonso even though technically most of the people infront of him either let him through (Massa) got a penalty (Button) or pitted and lost the position on the out lap (Webber).

So both of them drove great but Hamilton wasn't great? funny thing is if he had drove aggressively like he normally does instead of taking it easy people would have criticised him even more.

I hate Alonso but even so i think he had a great race after the bad start and did amazingly well to finish where he did.

If you don't dislike Hamilton than it would be nice to have an explanation of why you think he wasn't as good as some of the other drivers.

Hamilton can save 1000 babies from drowning, give away his earnings to charity, find the cure for cancer and even then some people wont be satisfied :hehe:

It's called a condition!

I really enjoyed the off-season because I didn't log in and watch all the Hamilton-bashing.

Master class drive from Seb today. He controlled the gap between Hamilton and himself and the team made a good call for strategy. Funnily enough last year at the final race in Abu Dhabi was the first time he had ever lead the championship and this year he's started off leading the championship from the first race.

I figure that Seb will just win race after race this year. For the earlier comment about Hamilton at times catching Vettel - Hamilton drove the balls off the thing whereas Seb, we saw nothing of him all race, except when he'd pit. Maybe Button should have made more of an attempt to slow down Vettel?

Great drive by Hamilton - bringing the car home. Petrov was great as well and Perez apparently did a zillion laps on used soft tyres! :yikes:

Who is the Giant guy next to Hiedfeld in that picture?

Its Lance "Buddy" Franklin, one of the top players in the AFL

That makes much more sense now LOL I was like there is no f;ing way that guy drives in f1 he makes webber look like a midget haha

Good race, strategy is back.

Dunno what happened to Webber, Redbull hardly ever say anyway. But it looked like Hamilton was catching Vettel, dunno why they didn't pit him as soon as Vettel pitted, the fresher tyres normally have the advantage.

The Renault looks good.

Looking worrying for the Ferraris, but Alonso looked mega, it's not time to panic.

Was Massa planning to do a 2-stop strategy? Looked like he pitted once he got overtaken easily by Jenson.

Ok finally finished, it.

I expected nothing less form vettel. He is a machine. Hamilton did remarkable given his car and how quickly mclaren changed things up. I am sad for my fantasy team that webber didn't do as well, but with both saubers alive and in the points that makes up for it. Jensen should have just given massa back his spot. He was going to pass him anyway, massa was terribly off pace. I really wish Kubica could have been here might have even been a 2/3 or 3/4 for renault.

Overall, GREAT START to the 2011 season.

My hopes: Williams finishes races and lotus picks up the pace, and hiefeld stops being a jack wagon.

EDIT I just saw the sauber :bs:

Lovely

It's during these instances you know that the poster simply can't BEAR to praise the driver who he knows is the best on the grid. :whip::D

Yep, in Malaysia we will have a better insight.
THere were some good overtakings today, I liked Vettel's move on Button. :cloud9:

Too bad for Sauber team, I hope they will get their points back.

yes but you dont agree that he had 4 wheels off the track and surely thats an ilegal overtake?

My views haven't changed mate, it's a stupid gimmick that hasn't added anything positive, it adds a danger (albeit slight) to drivers.

Get rid of it ASAP. And while we're at it, get rid of KERS - or in the case of Red Bull KES

It clearly doesn't work as seen by Button/Massa battle; the only time I saw a *so called* successful DRS pass was on cars that were slower than the overtaking car anyway. As for KERS I can see the majority of teams abandoning it before mid season if not before. if you want overtaking; remove the wings altogether, reduce the power of the brakes for bigger braking distances.
