hi folks,

please can someone clarify this for me. i understand that the hispanias are outside the 107% rule but...is it 107% of the fastest qualifying time i.e vettels 1:23.529 .

if it is.... unless im doing the calculation wrong the 107% time then would be 1:29.376.

if thats the case that means that the virgins both are outside the 107% rule also.....

am i wrong??

cheers

gordy!

As CarBore said - no, it's 107% of the Q1 fastest time - only fair as it's the only session the bottom 7 will have competed in, and also the only session the track conditions wold have been absolutely the same for all drivers / cars. Times beyond Q1 don't matter as far as the 107% rule is concerned.

The virgins may be out, but its ultimately decided by the FIA.

Arrrggh, Gaz, JensonB explained this about half a dozen times in the chat room and you still have it wrong. The virgins cannot be out, as they posted times within 107% of the fastest Q1 time. HRT were outside 107% of the fastest Q1 time and the FIA have decided that they cannot take part in the race.

Get rid of the back markers really, if the can't get there machines up to the speeds it is needed then good. IE Sutil will be competitive despite not being up there.

The problem I see with this is that, in the previous period where the 107% rule was in place, the teams with under-performing cars could test and test until they got their cars to a level where they would be able to qualify within the time given. This isn't possible now, due to the testing ban, which means that these teams will be travelling around the world with upgrades that they can't even give a percentage chance of working. This will potentially serve to discourage any future applicants, which is not a good thing.

Yes, competitive in the pirouette competition.

The rules around testing are certainly wrong now, but even more so for new team. In my opinion, any new team should be allowed additional testing days through the year for their first 2 or 3 years.

HRT should not have even been allowed to compete in this season; they didn't even turn a wheel in testing (at least not under the cars own power). The team should not be doing shake down testing at the first Grand Prix of the year; at the rate we are going Bernie may get his wish of having 10 teams on the grid by 2013.

I was a little confused about the 107% rule at first but it became pretty obvious in Q2 as the goalposts were not moving forward as Vettel went faster and faster!

Whilst this is true, by allowing them to compete, it has highlighted the issue that comes from the combination of these two rules, something which I think needs to be addressed.

It is embarassing that HRT is allowed to participate when they are obviously not readdy for F1,

they should suffer the same consequences as US f1

The HRT mechanics deserve a round of beers for getting the car out for 1 lap in practise

HRT were outside 107% of the fastest Q1 time and the FIA have decided that they cannot take part in the race

Is it official by the FIA? For the first race they should let it go.
