Well, for instance, I believe my country is by far more informed then yours. And, your country is by far richer and more developed. What do you think that is so?

The western Media is far more free than the Serbian media you've only been free of Slobodan Milosevic for 10 years, so the Serbian Media isn't as fully developed as the likes of western media such as the BBC.

How can you comment on another countries media? Have you lived there long enough for the local news to effect you? You each believe your own media is the best because that's all you've experienced.

'Well my black cat is blacker than your black cat.'

Get a grip.

First of all, my cat is not black so does that exempt me?

Secondly, welcome to the forum. Give yourself an introduction in the introduction area.

Thirdly, get a cute Avatar, as your posts are getting lost

Fourthly glad to see you guys are keeping the discussion civil, just make sure to familiarize yourself with the forum guidelines as it can get hot in here pretty quickly, often before you even know it.

I've been doing more thinking on this than talking on this thread, but I've decided that as much as I support the desire of the Libyan people to rebel and get themselves out from under the control of a dictator. The willingness of the US, and the UN, and the other coalition countries that jumped in is more in our self interest than it the interests of the Libyan people.

Hypocritical of the western world, and extremely inconsistent (or actually predictably consistent depending on your POV) of American foreign policy but that's the world we live in.

You make a habit of visiting Serbian news sites for your daily news fix?

I'll be quiet then.

Not really no, my cat is still blacker!

Secondly, welcome to the forum. Give yourself an introduction in the introduction area.

Thanks, If I get a chance, I'll do it.

I understand the reasons for your 'fourthly' and I too could see it going either way, but with extensive experience as a Mod on another forum I understand why you decided to post. But I think it diffused itself quite neatly within a few posts.

Foreign policy is all about self interest. The reason why the UK gives either £70 million or billion (i forget which, but the latter seems to ring more bells) in foreign aid to a country with it's own space program to help their poor and needy is purely to keep the trade coming into the UK.

On the other side, yes it's inconsistent of the west to impose a no-fly zone over Libya with the like of Yemen, Bahrain, Tunisian and Egypt. But the Libyan Government were showing intent of mass murder. No-where else were they using air strikes, artillery and tanks to quell civil unrest. There, is the difference.

Your generalization includes FOX News which in my opinion gets an Oscar for "Pile of Sh1t" news and their Republican ran crap.
I'll take the Pyong Yang state news anyday compared to the bile of U.S news.

One of the biggest if not the biggest News Media Outlet in the U.S is not an exception:nono:

Need stats really, how big is fox news compared to the Western media as a whole? The bbc is the single biggest news service I guess.

It really is a tough call. And yes, the big difference here is that there was real danger to the population... the guy is mad, everywhere else the leaders would have listened to reason, or at least understood the ramification of their actions.

This is one of those not black not white, but deeply gray situations. But we just don't need another @#$#$%^ WAR. And the way the politics work in the US is that a week ago every right wing politician was complaining that why wasn't Obama in there ready to enforce a no fly zone... As soon as we've got that, every same talking head right wing politician is now saying that why aren't we taking a leadership role, and why are we not supporting the Libyan people with troops and close air support because that's what's really needed... it's a very very very slippery slope, and we've been at war for nearly a decade. (unnecessarily) So you see why I have the pov I've got?

Fox news is the biggest cable news organization, its ratings triple that of the nearest competitor, and pretty much are bigger than all of the other cable news networks put together...

But to put it into perspective as to how big of an audience tunes in to cable news, The most popular show on Fox Nes is beaten in the ratings by Sponge Bob cartoons.

BBC the biggest? I dont think so.
''News Corp., is the world's third-largest media conglomerate (behind The Walt Disney Company and Time Warner) as of 2008''

But that not the point! Gaz said that Western Media is yada-yada and Serbian Media such-n-such..............Not the case and completely untrue

Actually, i'm right.

Television is, by far, the main source of news and information. The flagship public network, RTS1, is among a handful of outlets that dominate the market.
The media regulator awarded national TV licences in 2006 to private stations B92, TV Pink, News Corp's Fox TV (now Prva Srpska), TV Avala and a licence share to Kosava-Happy TV. It granted five national radio licences - to B92, Radio Index, Radio S, Roadstar and Radio Focus.
According to Reporters Without Borders (RSF) in 2010, "death threats, physical or verbal assaults, harassment and corruption are unfortunately still the daily lot of the press." Journalists have been the victims of reprisals for investigating the criminal underworld, RSF said.
There were 4.1 million internet users by June 2010 (Internetworldstats). In the same month, the number of Facebook users topped two million, according to Blic newspaper. Internet access is unrestricted, NGO Freedom House says.

I'm completely lost.

What has all this guff got to do with Libya?

I belive it was brought up because of the Libyan Media's reporting of the situation vs the Western Media.

And Vlads suggestion that Serbian Media's reporting of the confict is more accurate than Western Media.

Anyway, best proof for my taughts is my experience... I lived through 2 wars in a short period of time. And yes, most of you were completelly blinded by your media regarding the situation here.

Depends almost entirely on how they got their fix, the BBC are actually really neutral, i mean really, they dont talk s*it and being (i dont know the word) public-funded? its not a media owned by some surpra-capitalist that can exert their views through it, eg Rupert Murdoch.

That said the BBC are only one outlet, and its the most objective of British people that get their info from them, they tell us the facts, they dont try to inlfuence. Not only that by law we are required to have two opposing views always on news shows or political question times. The UK is a world beacon for liberal-objectivity.

Cant say the same for most other countries though, but from a personal view, we knew the situation in your country.
