We can't read anything into the form book yet; but it is nice to see JB in P1; I still expect Red Bull to be dominant in the race; I would like to see Mark Webber win the Australian GP almost as much as I would like Jenson Button to win. I am not at all sure what will happen in the race; apart from I expect RB to run away with it, the KERS/MRW combo is the big unknown!

I was worried about what sort of pace we would see from the McLarens, so them topping the charts was nice, but it's just Friday so I'm not going to get too excited just yet.

Congrats to the Macca pair, well done to repeat their 1-2 Friday P2 from last year. All their fans can enjoy a drink or 10 tonight. Well done to team McLaren :drink:

From a Tifosi's perspective I think things are looking really really good. All the main drivers set their fastest lap on short runs on the option tyre. But, Vettel, Webber, Hamilton, Button, Shumey and Nico all came in immediately after their hot lap, whereas Nando stay out and went around twice after his hot lap. He also did one more lap before his hot lap. So, he definitely had more fuel on board and probably didn't use the options when they were at their best.

Some more good news, firstly, have a look at the top speeds from this afternoons session:-
1 Kamui Kobayashi 314.5
2 Sebastien Buemi 314.1
3 Nico Rosberg 314
4 Sergio Perez 313.6
5 Adrian Sutil 313.4
6 Sebastian Vettel 311.9
7 Paul di Resta 311.6
8 Vitaly Petrov 311.3
9 Jenson Button 311.3
10 Nick Heidfeld 310.9
11 Lewis Hamilton 309.9
12 Jaime Alguersuari 309.3
13 Michael Schumacher 309.2
14 Rubens Barrichello 308.4
15 Pastor Maldonado 308.3
16 Mark Webber 307.1
17 Felipe Massa 306.1
18 Fernando Alonso 305

Ferrari had both engines turned way down all day today :-)

Roll on Saturday and can I hear a "Forza Ferrari" from anyone else?

Anyone else thinking the form book hasn't changed one bit.

It still feels like it's, Ferrari, Red Bull and McLaren at the top. With Mercedes and Renault close behind. Then the mid-feild, and then the 3 new teams. Then again. No one knows until quali tomorrow, (if it's dry)

Button on top

Sure, Red Bull and Ferrari probably sandbagging, but nice to see JB up there. And McLaren clearly not off the pace. And they got 61 laps in between them.
Charlie Whiting has come out and said that MRW will not be allowed to be used by any driver during the event (includes q and race) if the car is fitted with intermediate or wet tyres.

"Any driver using the adjustable bodywork whilst the car is fitted with intermediate or wet-weather tyres will be reported to the stewards as being in breach of Article 2.3 of the Technical Regulations (dangerous construction)."

Oddly the rule is being enforced differently. In P2, when one car was fitted with the Inters, all cars had the Active Rear Wing disabled.

they say that the speed difference is a bit much between the inter and dry tyres so you no one can't use it.

and also in P2, the last 30mins of that session you can only use MRW in the allocated overtaking section, did anyone pick up on that or am i wrong??

this MRW, DRS, whatever it is, just confusing.

Button on top

Interestingly, ahead of Hamilton in both sessions and with some pretty good degradation rates on the tyres. I still think Red Bull and Ferrari are faster, but if there are any hiccups Jenson may well be there to take advantage. Again.

It was also nice to see that Rubens was in the top-ten for both sessions. Perhaps Williams will get a good start to the season this year with a solid points finish. Now I just need to watch the practice sessions on Red Button when I get home, in preparation for P3 tomorrow.

Of course, the other possibility here is that they're just pulling a Williams 2009-style performance...

It'd be great for mclaren to surprise everyne by winning the race on Sunday...

I usually don't like reading too much into practice sessions but I am hoping that the result earlier will be a sign of things to come

i think mclaren are looking much better than people predicted, but then again its only friday.

virgin doesn't even look like it will qualify for the race which would mean hispania has no chance.

I think Timo might drag the Virgin inside the 107% mark but ya a total disaster for him. Virgin have built one sh*t car.

And HRT? I think they will need a 207% rule. :hehe:

HRT have to Build 2 cars first before even think about quali

I feel bad if timo can't qualify for the race, he totally deserves better.

I feel terrible for him. His best years are being wasted at the back of the grid. :(

His gamble to join a new team at the end of 09 has officially backfired.
