Ron threatened the FIA/FOCA with setting up a rival series if the did not share out the money earned more evenly with the constructors. Now many teams were part of this revolt but Ron was without a doubt the spokesperson and ringleader.
Ferrari sided with the FIA/FOCA and eventually a compromise was reached where the constructors had a better 'divvy' of the payouts.
I think their were many friendships broken and enemies made during this fraught time. The biggest grudge being held is/was Max Mosley against Ron Dennis - Ron having the upper hand, had Max by the short and curlies! Max being a fascist like his dad bided his time and now that time has come.
If years gone by, I am sure Max would have sent his blackcoats to re-arrange Rons kneecaps......now all Max can do with Rons knees is bring him to them!
I even remember an interview where Ron and Frank Williams went on TV with a black backdrop and very publicly opposed what Max and Bernie were proposing.
Ron was also very critical of the constant change in technical regulations, again in a very public manner...

Does anyone know where the 'external experts' are going to come from? If they are experts in F1 design then they are in the F1 business and, therefore, not external, if they are external what will they know about F1 design?. How do you define an idea? How do you prove that it is not an original idea. At this level of engineering all designers are using the same data and they basicaly end up in the same place. 1 team develops a new technology, say seamless gear boxes, it isn't long before everyones got them, isn't that a stolen idea?. Aero designs are obvious to a designer, are we saying that a designer is not 'influenced' by some piece of aero design on a competitors car that seems to work?. Lots of ideas are copied and that has always been the case, so how will they decide on the guilt or innocence of McL?
It definitely seems like a Mosely vendetta. Mosely is a disgrace and should be gone.

Not blaming the judge at all. The fact that MM & RD do not have a good relationship is well known and not disputed, the fact that MM has a very 'special relationship with di Montizemolo is well known and not disputed. But, the bottom line is How can 'outside experts' genuinly assertain whether an idea is original or not? This is a serious point, I would really like to know. I suppose that MM could offer an explanation but it all seems very tenuous and vague at the moment.
