Alonso: “Today, my thoughts are with the victims of the earthquake in Japan”
11th March 2011

Montmelò, 11 March – “Confronted with a tragedy like the one that has struck Japan today, Formula 1 and all its problems to do with tyres, wings and engines is way down the list of priorities and today, my thoughts go first and foremost to the victims and their families.” Fernando Alonso was shocked at the reports of the tragedy which hit northern Japan and therefore wanted to give his personal message of support to all those hit by the cataclysm through http://www.ferrari.com.

I know Jenson also made a similar statement, perhaps someone could post that as well. I'm sure all the teams, drivers etc all share these feelings.

Remember Jarno Trulli starting a fund raising effort for the victims of the earthquake in Italy?
C'mon Kobi - your turn now! :director:

Good luck Japan, and all the people in effected by the earthquake, tsunami, and the near nuclear reactor meltdown.

It is always upsetting to see a such a poor country hit be a natural disaster, what ever the "official" death toll is... you can double it

Edit: just seen the other thread

Japan is actually frigging rich - no. 3 economy in the world!

But I know what you mean - and it could have been way worse if Japan was a third world country with poor infrastructure such as Haiti and others.

There was an explosion in the nuclear plant. But no meltown! at least not yet, and hopefully so.

Such a poor country??

Yeah it was real terrible in Haiti... and to make matters worse they have these lousy neighbours ;)

BTW, according to people who have been in Haiti...... it is still JUST as it was on day 1. So far, relief effort and so on has gone almost unnoticed.

I mean lower middle class people who do not have excisive money.

They have plenty of under privilaged people that are effected alot worse then the national average citizen.

America is a "rich" country but New Orleans is a very poor part, it is always traggic.

yeah Jenson's girlfriend was in Tokyo at the time so he was pretty concerned on a personal level as he couldn't get in contact with her by phone, only later in the day via Twitter.

Agree, I think like most of your, ll these celebs with millins of pounds just laying in there bank account doing nothing and just collecting interest should IMHO be given to Japan. Schumi gave the Tsunami victims I believe £10 Million to them? So I think people need to dig deep. I only wish I could go down there and help.
