The only correct name is football in the English language. Soccer is a second rated word. People who call it that do so because they have another code of football such as American Gridiron or Aussie Rules which they think is superior but in actual fact is inferior. There is only one correct name for the sport and it is football or in full association football. The stupid word soccer comes from assoc in association for those who do not know. Anyone who uses soccer instead of football in an English test of mine will get marked down. And I am serious.

you go on and on with this debate, face facts English is spoken by many nations and not all of which play Association Footbal as their major sport. The USA invented their own form of Football based on Rugby which by the way is older than Asoociation Football and was called Football before Soccer was IN ENGLAND.

So if you really want to be technical Rugby in English is really called Football. Throw in Australian Football and well its even older than Association Football as well. Clubs in Melbourne and Adelaide are older than any in Italy or England football leagues.

Just deal with it and move on, not everyone calls it Football

Bloody hell i hadn't noticed your lot sneak up into second there! We did you a favour by beating Swansea on saturday. It's so close and congested though, especially if Burnley win their game in hand... you have to say Cardiff are one of the favourites to go up, simply given the quality of some players in their squad.

How did I know what your answer to this post of mine would be.

Umm your history lesson may be so or may not be so. However linguistically the English spoken in England is the most correct English of all because it comes from there. In England it is football thus it is therefore more correct. If the English ever call it soccer then I will concede the point. But until then I will not.

Not happy Marseille lost to Man Utd. I hope Utd get someone hard in the draw for the quater finals. Someone like Barca, Inter, Real Madrid (Assuming they beat Lyon), or Chelsea (They should win). Actually come to think of it I hope they do not get Inter. I want Inter to get someone easy like Schalke. I simply hope they get one of the other 3 mentioned. Especially Barcelona.

Actually AKR there is no proper English, there are words spelt by Americans that were once common in England, such as words ending in ize, ise which in England and the rest of the commonwealth adopted the French ise well after America gained independence so aside from humor vs humour or color vs colour words Americans can say they speak the kings English better than the English

Don't believe anything I say about football or English well be my guest and google it! Btw Geelong FC was founded in 1859 when was the first Italian football club founded?

Yes you done us a big favour,some of the lads i go to England away games with are Derby season ticket holders.I owe them a pint in cardiff next weekend
Burnley slipped up last night which was another result.Not sure if we will make it but its been a great season thus far.Agree with you Cardiff will take some stopping.Although I've thought for 2/3 years Swansea are by far the best footballing team in the league,but as Arsenal show us that doesn't always win things.
