It seems as if there is going to be a devastatingly large number of lives lost with this quake perhaps all over the Pacific rim, the images are horrific. Why does it take events like this to have humanity pull together for a common cause.

Shocking scenes from Japan, my thoughts are with the people there.

However on your last point, there's been over 2000 people killed in Libya the RAF has Aircraft based in Malta that could help, Italy has aircraft in Range and the USS Enterprise is off the coast.

They could quite easily stop this yet the UN does nothing. So sometimes Humanity talks to long and does too little.

What gives the UN the right to start interfering with a country that does not and has not asked for help. Who should the UN help in Libya?

Gadaffi as he is the man in power, just because he is not liked does not mean he should not be there, I was never a big fan of George W, that does not mean I was gonna get the UN to overthrow him!?!

Or do we help the rebels, or could we call them Terrorists? maybe Freedom fighters?

The United Nations are a policing force.

Look what happened to the roman empire when democracy took over?!?

Back on topic, I think the Japan things has touched a lot more raw neurves than the Phucket once as I think people know a lot more and can connect with Japan more. It also goes to show that with all the technology in the world we are only here cos mother earth wants us to be!!

Did it start off small, cause this morningall i heard was " some minor damage in an eathquake in japan" on the bbc radio and thought nothing of it, they happen there all the time.

Now it seems it was a catastrophic one. I remember watching amatueur footage of the oxing day tsunami and all of it was so poor in showing how big and forceful the waves were, i was like, this killed 200,000+ people? ive just seen some depth perceptive footage of some of the tsunamis let alone earthquake hitting japan and its astounding, towns washed away in the click of a finger, theres no surviving it if you get caught.

where that been reported mate?

A friend told me by BB........ It may well be a rumour, but since Cuba has not too much internet and so on, we may have to wait a bit to know for real.

Some of the video footage of this is just incredible

http://uk.news.yahoo.com/5/20110311/vid ... eb865.html

Genuinely scary, I doubt even molten lava from a volcano can do more damage than a wall of water which is unstoppable, at least volcanic flows cool and eventually stop, but theoretically a tsunami can keep going indefinately depending on the momentum from the earthquake. Looks like even California could be hit which would be a disaster as that whole coast down to Mexico is very heavily populated.

That was some crazy stuff. I just head about all this an hour ago.

Suzuka, has it been destroyed as well? Would be a shame to lose that part of history along side such a fantastic country. :(

Can we split this topic?

Regarding Libya They are most definitely Freedom Fighters and i believe NATO has labled them as such much in the same way they changed the Kosovo Liberation Army from Terrorists to Freedom Fighters before the Kosovo War.

And they have asked for a no fly zone at least. I'm not saying NATO should go in and remove Quadaffi but they should at least stop him bombing his own people.

Saw some footage of this. It's horrendous. 6th largest earthquake ever recorded and the largest ever in Japan, which is saying something. 100 times larger than Kobe.

Apparently this is going to affect ANY country with a Pacific coast, and there are a lot... but i don't know how much of that is media fearmongering and overstatement. I'm hearing a nuclear power station is having cooling problems and i hope to f*ck that is meda overstatement....

Can we split this topic?

Just create a new one if you want to discuss it, it'll be less confusing (and much easier and logical) cause the posts here aren't exclusively about the Libya situation. :)
