In what ways do the safer runoffs or tarmac hurt overtaking? i dont get it.
There is already a lack of ot attempts, if the risk was hitting a kerb or a gavel trap and ruining your race, there would bbe even less overtaking attempts.

But that isn't the case; when gravel traps were commonplace; there was just as many overtaking attempts if not more, which brings up the question; is it track design; is it car design or is it simply the mentality of modern F1 drivers; I would say that there is only four drivers that take risks to make the overtake in modern F1, Hamilton, Kubica, Kobayashi and Schumacher.

There were more ot attempst but not because of the runoffs... there were more because the cars could follow eachother. I dont think those 4 drivers are the only ones taking the risks for overtaking...... Kobayashi perhpas is the only one with the least to lose so he can take more risks than the others, then the others have probably the same overtakes as most of the other front runners.

I hope that this season shows us more overtaking, due to new tyres end MRW! If not, then they should really think to give someone else the constructing of tracks...

Or revert the classic tracks back too their original config, just a thought.

Great one... Just when I remember Hockenheim... :cloud9:

 the old hockenheim was incredible. Seemed pretty unorthodox, but that's what made it great. I doubt they'll "revert" though......... i guess there's no need to go all romantic about the past. As long as they dont screw the present with sprinklers and deployable wings, or random SC insertion :irked:

Why not? I'm a romantic at heart  and miss those nostalgic tracks and times :( . I do agree that they will not be reverted but it sure would be sweet.

I understand, that pleasurable nostalgia is an awesome feeling.
But i mean, there's no need to try and make the present like the past; because then we wont remember the present with the same nostalgia in the future. We'll only remember how we didnt like the present.

it is car design if you use your head, but if your a sheep and not a shepherd, you follow the traditional" god tilke is such a crap designer" doctrine.

Ive watched enough races in even the 70s and 80s now to know that the more advanced the cars braking, acceleration and reliance on car design then driver ability, is the single cause of the lack of overtaking, the cars accelerate to fast for a faster one to overtake after a corner, the cars take corners too fast that a faster car cant beat them round it, and the cars brake so quick that the only way to overtake is to lock your brakes and hope for the best.

Its the cars. That said, i dont know whether you old fogies have lost your eyesight but ive seen plenty of overtaking in the last 4 seasons ive watched fully.

If you watched races in the '70s and '80s like some of us 'old fogies' welcome too the club pops:thumbup: !

listens to Led Zep, watch only Clint Eastwood flicks, and revel in flared jeans and sideburns at nightspots.....I am practically an OAP.

i think the new circuits are just big open spaces and they have no history, passion, and they are in stupid locations too!, think of the great circuits....silverstone, spa, monza, monaco, suzuka, none of these new circuits are any good! bar turkey

Of course they have no history.....they're NEW! But Turkey and Korea already have good history. Both are tracks which helped define the championship in a BIG way for 2010.
