Why is Renault no longer using the term "old style floppy discs."

It was an attempt by Renault minimize scandal. Using obsolete discs, surely the McLaren data on them must be obsolete and outdated. That is the BS Renault wanted everybody and the press to believe.

many computers including super computers have floppy disks as a fail safe. if the computer fails you can simply boot from floppy (and write to floppy) to get it working again. you cant write to cd from boot and usb pen drives are not suited to the job because of theft.

+ how you know he oesnt have cd's at home and copied the files to floppy there?

I've read on different sites that Phil MacKereth had taken 3 CDs to Renault. Today we are told it was 3 "old style floppy discs". Are we to conclude that info on floppy discs is a lesser form of spying, and punishment as such should be proportional, verses using CDs. Renault press releases seem to be saying, we had 3 x 1.44mb not 3 x 750mb of stolen McLaren tech info, so punishment if any should be less than that of McLaren.

Based on the Ferrari / McL situation, which was slightly different because one F employee passed to another McL employee, but, nevertheless, this information has been taken from McL and seen by Renault, so, it doesn't matter what the data is, or whether it was on floppy or written on the back of a bog role, it was McLs property. That was the succesful argument of Ferrari so the same rules must apply.
Mind you, even if it was out of date for McL it was probably futuristic for Renault!!
