This is something I've done on another forum. It is very simple and tons of fun. What do you think?

So, let's have an F1 Pool where you choose the positions of 10 drivers for the upcoming race. I will update every forumite's points total after each event and tally it all at the end of the season for the F1.net Forum's GP winner. Newcomers can join in anytime, although they will be at a disadvantage regarding points. The winning participant gets to dictate a line that all other players must insert in their sig (e.g. Lewey - 2011 WDC).

Do not cheat by changing drivers once GP has started. Therefore, NO EDITING POSTS during a race. Drivers MUST finish in your selected position for you to score points allocated to that position. Select your drivers after qualifying. Play Fair and have fun.

Eg. If you select Jenson Button to win, and he finishes 1st, you get 25 points, however, if Jenson does not win, you get 0 points because you were wrong about his position. The maximum points you can collect in a GP is 101 points (A Grandslam!!).

The cutoff time for posting your picks is the official start time as designated by the countdown clock at http://formula1.com , which is when the cars roll off for the (first) parade lap. If you want to change your picks before the cutoff, please make a new post.

It's such a simple game, and went down really well with my other peeps. You almost ended up cheering on teams just because you would gain points in the F1 pool ...

I've had half a bottle of wine this evening, and this idea sounds like a cheap date that puts out at the end. So count me in! :D

Perhaps you can get cooperation from the mods by locking said thread just before the start of each GP this way it assures no cheating. I'm not sure about dic..tating anything though, perhaps we'll have to collectively think of a grand prize worthy of the first forumula1.com GP champion. I'm sure Stephen is looking under his couch cushions for spare change right now.

The pied piper strikes again!

So just to summarize and make sure I've got the "instructions" down pat.

For Melbourne, I'd guess something like...

1 Kobayashi Kobi wins so I get 25 pts.
2 Barrichello Barichello actually comes in 8th so I get 0 pts.
3 Button Button crashes so I get 12 pts.
4 Massa Massa does come in 4th so I get 0 pts
5 Vettel Vettel does comes in 5th so I get 10 pts
6 Rossberg Rosberg actually comes in 2nd so I get 0 pts.
7 Di Resta Di Resta does come in 7th so I get 6 pts
8 Perez Perez comes in 3rd so I get 0 pts.
9 Hamilton Hamilton comes in 6th so I get 0 pts.
10 Alonso Alonso crashes so I get 0 pts.

Total is 53 out of a possible 101 points.

Then you're agreeing to tally all of the point totals, and rank them for every member that participates. (a lot of work there SV) and we'll keep it it going all season long. So let me know if I got it, and if so...

I'm in.

DUH... you're pointing out the flaws in my morning math? At least you know I'm not the one tabulating the results!

Now I noticed not only you gave points for crashing, it also was the wrong amount

But yeah, this game sounds like fun!

I've created a game like this a while ago, because it took me too long to calculate the points for everyone on the forum I had running. The points calculation and statistics/standings generation is automatic and with last year's pretty awesome season I decided to expand it to other series such as MotoGP. Anyway, the op is right and it is great to participate in a game like this during the season. I've run this kind of game on a forum before, and when there's a lot of users playing, the "manager" of the game can waste a lot of time to calculate points even by using an Excel spreadsheet or something similar. So if you'd like, you're all more than welcome to join the game. With respect to the rules, I won't be putting the link to the game here because this post could be understood as advertising. Therefore, if you're interested in this, you can google F1 Oracle, and the link should be in the top results.

Cheers,

Mladen

How much have you been drinking? Kobayishi in P1???

Ok...You only get points if the driver you picked finishes in that specific spot. In your example above, you would be credited with Massa's points (since you picked him to finish 4th and he did), but unless Button somehow managed to crash, spin across the track and still finish 3rd, you would not get those points.

I've played this game for years, and am pretty good at tallying it all up. We did have a computer programmer who eventually come up with a programme that was awesome, so if there's any geeks around here....

Well does that computer programmer have an email address? I'm sure a computer programer would love it if a chick from their past contacted them and very sweetly asked for it. :moan: I'm not very handy with Excel, but it seems as if a pretty straight forward spreadsheet with the appropriate formulas would do a fine job!
