I encourage everyone to boycott the race in Bahrain. No event like F1 can claim to disconnected from events in a country that hosts a race. Indeed, host countries use F1 to promote their nation and the image that they are a wealthy and sophisticated one at that. Allowing the race to proceed and attending with the pretense that nothing is happening in Bahrain would be repugnant to civilized people. Totalitarian despots should not find a home in the world of F1. Now is F1's chance to demonstrate that it is more than just a business, but represents an international community with a bit of civility and respect for human beings.

I might suggest having the f1 media's eyes on Bahrain might help matters, this is about the voice of the masses, right? What do the masses in Bahrain think of the grand prix?

Sport has a role to play, but normally thats by playing it, people enjoy seeing their heroes etc, it provides an aesthetic outlet, F1 represents many good positive qualities, I argue the race adds to a better Bahrain, so should go ahead.

Let me see, watch an F1 race or boycott it.... well if I do not watch the race in the big sceme of things no one will really care, Bernie will get paid, the BBC might get a bit annoyed if enough people did not watch but would put it down to the political feelings there at the moment.

The only thing that would lose out is Bahrain, which I went to once and did not particulate like the place (it was before the races where being held)

I think I will watch the race. Maybe we should all boycott triangles because they look like Pyramids and the Egyptians might get upset.

Why should F1 suffer for a country's govermental unrest because of a few fanatics beliefs?? Are you running for office?? This is NOT the platform nor forum for you to impose your political agenda or belief's.

Let me guess you are Muslim right? Not that I'm against freedom of religion but:

Bahrain’s government is keen to protect the status quo and doesn’t want to compromise its cultural values or standard of living by allowing foreigners to become a permanent part of society. Your only route to becoming a naturalised citizen is by marriage to a national; even this, however, doesn’t guarantee citizenship, particularly for non-Muslims.

So that mean's if one does not have the slightest family connection to self-imposed royalty/money they will peer through their shacks while enduring a 100mph sand storm but should be grateful ?

There is already a thread about the Bahrain situation, and anyway i feel this one may be going down the route of arguing about politics - that's not what this board (or at least this section of the board) is about, and those arguments always seem to end in tears either way so i'm going to nip this one in the bud. Thread locked.
