I see a fair amount of poking and prodding against the Bahrain GP. Anybody care to explain why they dislike it? I'm just curious because I think it's a great track. I enjoy watching it and absolutely love racing it on F1 2010 on my xbox 360.

I think it's a good track, ofcourse, we know the rason why it is in Bahrain, but it's still nice...

The Bahrain GP represents pretty much everything that's wrong with F1 tracks. There's no overtaking, no spectators, the surroundings are ugly (it just has sand everywhere), it's overall boring. It's only there to fill Bernie's pockets.

Ah, I see. I guess it's easy for me to enjoy the scenery because I live in the desert so I kind of fancy the sand. I kind of like the ebb and flow of the track though, too, with the dips here and there, but that's just me.

Another question; what, specifically, about a track makes it good for overtaking? I've seen some comments here and there suggesting that some tracks are good for overtaking while others are not, but I'm still pretty new to the sport having only watched it for one year now and I'm not sure what those characteristics are about a track that make it good for overtaking. I've seen a few people comment that the herman-tilkes tracks aren't great for overtaking but they seem interesting enough to me. However, it is to my limited understanding that slow corners are the best place for overtaking, but this is all hearsay to me. Any input would be appreciated.

Well, if you look at the track in Turkey, you will see that that one has a bunch of overtaking chances, sudden slow corners, etc.
But, still, Bahrain is pretty nice track! Better than Valencia for sure...

The "Bernie element" may certainly have something to do with it alas; it is a bit boring.

I know this idea/opinion has been braught up before but maybe the tracks are not too blame but the silly reg's put upon the cars that don't really allow passing unless it is a bonzai move? Heck the newer tracks are wider now than 20-30yr's ago when passing was not an issue. Just taking a shot at a thought I have concerning this situation.

Your metaphor is alittle crude but pretty much spot on.

Well, we might not have to endure the race there given the unrest in the country - Bernie will talk to the Crown Prince Salman ibn Hamad ibn Isa Al Khalifa (anybody with such a name deserves to be sent to the desert) to find out what the scoop is, but chances are it gets canceled if the situation doesn't improve dramatically (the police shot two protesters today - not good for keeping peace among the masses).

The real question is if the protesters ie extremist shot at or endangered the whole protest or attacked the police with what could be deemed as a deadly force . It's a difficult situation for both sides but trying to cause physical harm/injury/death must be met with equal force.

In answer to the question, after the anticipaton of a new season, that track produces incredibly boring racing. Australia was way better for the season opener.

i prefer australia as the opener and the early starting time getting up at like 4am!

1st of all... Melbourne was a much more appropriate opener, because... well, there's F1 fans in australia.

Bahrain sucks because:
1. The track provides poor racing. Forget about the reasons, just look at all the past races, its lame. It may be fun on PS/Xbox but terrible in real racing; I love Barcelona in F12010... and the track layout itself may be nice and challenging... but the races are not that exciting.

2. There's no real F1 fans in Bahrain! Prince whatever just wants to showcase his wealth and prop up his business at the expense of his servants... reminds me of our politicians, but at least we change our politicians when another one lies better and we elect them, we can also embarrass them in public and judge them... even shoot them.

There's probably more reasons... but at least its not an oval.

i dont mind that the track surroundings look like they do.... its a desert, and its hot. You wanna have a World championship? you gotta have different scenarios.
