Imagine if the Renault is really good and they challenge Mercedes, Ross Brawn will probably kick himself, if not I kick him myself.

If they are then good for them and no reason Brawn should kick himself for having competition, thats what racing is all about I thought?

competition is all good for the fans and it makes the sport more exciting but from a team's perspective, eventhough they tell you they like competition through their PR, the truth is they don't want competition. They will bent the rules/regulations, spies, espionage, report each other, all for having the teams at an disadvantage but if you put a microphone in front of them, they will tell you they want everyone equal. But with Heidfeld's situation, its very similiar to professional sports like Futbol and Football, the last thing you want is to have a player that's talented go to a competiting them, you rather keep them as a backup or reserve role then hand them over to your competition. Now this is all speculations and Brawn doesn't have a crystal ball to tell him Kubica will be out, but if the Renault has a leg up on the Mercedes (mind you this also plays into points=$$), Brawn will properly wished Heidfeld was still sitting in the Mercedes trailer home.

I don't know because that is all mere speculation and F1 history has proven that Brawn is not easily intimidated, now that is a proven fact  . Anyway Merc GP has a set driver lineup so why was Brawn brought into the mix??

Men like Brawn will tell you they are not easily intimidated but like everyone men, they all worry about their pocket book. The reason why I brought Brawn up is that for the sake of his pocket book, he should have kept Heidfeld as a reserve/test driver instead of letting him out of his contract because if the Renault is a few points ahead of Merc at the end of the year, a few points=a few $millions and it doesn't matter how rich or not easily intimidated you are, a few lost millions hurt. Now this is all pure speculation of what may happened or not but that's the fun of it.

Personally I always thought Heidfeld should be in a Mercedes race seat, that was Brawn's mistake. Heidfeld is too good to be a reserve driver and time is not on his side anymore at 33 so he was always going to leave that reserve Mercedes role at the first opportunity.

Nah Schui needed the time to get back into the grove and Nico is a better driver than Nick.

Nicks a driver that will potter round and always finish and get you points, and help you develop the car.

Hes proberly not going to win races (unless the car is good)

It may be his chance this year however if that Renault is good

I agree with the Rosberg comparison but Nick even by your description is exactly what Mercedes needed last year. I'd say he would have got a few podiums too. The chap is brilliant in wet races.

This looks good:

Nick Heidfeld is confident he has done enough to secure his position on the 2011 grid as Robert Kubica's replacement at Renault.

Team boss Eric Boullier is expected to make an announcement about the position on Monday, after Heidfeld tested the R31 on Saturday and set the fastest time.

"I have the feeling I have passed this test," Heidfeld told Auto Motor und Sport. "I could do no more than my best."

But he played down the significance of topping the timesheets. "Anyone can do that if they really want to, with little fuel and super soft tyres."

He admitted that benefitting from the ill fortune of a friend is a "funny feeling".

"You know very well that someone's bad luck might turn out well for you and obviously I'd like to come back in different circumstances," he said. "But it's a chance and you have to use it. I've sent Robert a text message and I will visit him in hospital, but I am hearing that his condition is improving every day. You can tell he is very popular here and is the clear number one. I hope he can come back as fast as possible."

He added: "By the way, it was Renault who called me and not the other way around."

One of his tasks for this week is to apply for the renewal of his super license. "Before, it was not high on my agenda!" he laughed.

And Boullier has confirmed that Bruno Senna, who tested the car on Sunday, was never in contention for a 2011 race seat, but instead was gaining experience for his role as Renault's reserve driver.

"Senna's day of testing was not to evaluate him, but rather to give him some mileage to prepare him in his role as the third driver," Boullier said.

Senna was off the pace of Heidfeld, but was happy with his day at the wheel.

"I was not competing with him," he is quoted by Globo Esporte. "I came here in my role as third driver. For preparation you need more than one day in the car - they need a driver that's ready to do it.

"The work I did gives me new chances with the team for the future, and they seemed to like what I did."

Where Bruno belongs for sure.

And Nick deserves to try and go for the illustrious race win, there'd be very few who'd disagree with that I'm sure. Roll on 2011!!

Yeh on a car development level Nick would of been a good idea if Nico was gunning for the WDC.

But because Team Merc has Schumi it never would of happened.

ITS OFFICIAL CHAPS!!!! Heidfeld is officially back in F1 as a driver for Renault.:whip::thumbup: Now I need to get some Renault gears to wear. On another note, before the Kubica accident, the only thing that kept him from an F1 seat was teams was asking him to PAY for his seat and he said he couldn't find a sponsor. A driver of his caliber and experiences and he needs to pay for is own ride? I think Nick will be on a tear this year because he knows he's got only a small window to prove himself again, aint nothing like rooting for the underdog.

I really think nick will do a mark webber this year. One of the semi-senior players, knowing how he was almost out, I believe he has to be thinking he has something to prove.

Not just the normal fancy of "I want to do good" but the last straw mentality.. When Webber got dissed (aledgedly) by RB, he would shine! "Not Bad for a number 2!"

Nick should answer that call this year. "I got a raw deal after BMW..Yeah" "I was made a reserve driver.. Yeah" "I was lucky enough to test tyres for Pirelli...yeah.." "I've been beat down, wondered about by legions, where is nick  whats up with that  "

It's time you redeem Nick.. It's time you hold nothing, NOTHING back.

Its time you go balls deep up in them guts!!
