"Ferrari has misappropriated the F-150 trademark in naming its new racing vehicle the 'F150' in order to capitalize on and profit from the substantial goodwill that Ford has developed in the F-150 trademark," Ford said in a complaint filed in U.S. District Court in Detroit.

What a load of BS........ no problem if they said Ferrari used a name already protected by international laws, but to say they are using the name to benefit from the pickup truck's reputation is ridiculous.

So, what other options could Ferrari have? call it the F1 150? or call it the F cento cinquenta?

If Ferrari used a numerical naming system this wouldn't have happened. But it's not like Ferrari are selling this to the public So it's not in competition with Ford. I guess what Ford is worried about is name recognition, when they think of F150 do they think of the Ferrari or the Ford? That in itself is what they want to protect.

Their claim is different from what you say. But this could be the real concern for Ford. The filthy rich guys who hear F150, instead of buying a nice big family truck would think of a Ferrari first and go...."hey! Why not?" :hehe:

95% of Ford's target audience with F-150 trucks don't even know what Formula 1 is...they just know what nascar is so I don't see why they're throwing a fit over it. And I doubt that the people who know the difference between the Ferrari F150 and Ford F-150 give two darns about ford in the first place

Corporations don't care, it's within Ford's legal rights to challenge it and they will likely wind up winning a settlement because of it. Why does Toys R Us sue anyone with a name like Mattresses R Us or Hot Tubs R Us? Apple does the same crap with their iWhatever product is being sold! It's protecting their brand even at the risk of it being detrimental due to their stance.

Curious to see how this pans out. Personally I think it's moronic of Ford, but legally they've got more than a leg to stand on.

I think Ford are actually benefiting from Ferrari. I mean i barely knew that the F150 was a truck until it was pointed out to me.

(Ford dont sell very many cars, let alone trucks where i live)

where the hell do you live?!

Last time i checked Ford was the biggest selling, most profitable car company in history. I dont think its as detrimental to Ford at all, their biggest consumer market is the US, and they could all turn out to be child killers and outsell all the other cars. Dont know why anyone would be put off buying a Ford cause they didnt let Ferrari share a name.....

I reckon GECI will be rubbing their hands together with delight at the thought of Ford succeeding, I wonder how much they'll get out of Ford when they show up in court showing they own the original F150. These were sold in the US by Cessna 15 years before the first Ford F-150 was ever made.

I wonder if LDM owns any share in them?
