I have very limited knowledge of F1, but I know enough to know that I want to follow it more closely. The thing is, I don't know the first thing about a driver or team to get behind. There are no current American drivers, and me having the "hometeam" mentality, this leaves me looking for the next criteria that I look for in a driver. I like drivers who are gritty and bold, almost to the point of reckless and dirty, but with the restraint to do everything BUT wreck someone to win. Drivers who aren't necessarily cocky, but aren't afraid to speak their mind. Drivers in the vein of A.J. Foyt, Tony Stewart, etc. I understand these are a different breed of driver from the F1 drivers, but I'm sure there are drivers in F1 who somewhat fit that mold. Those are the drivers I want to watch and pull for.

Secondly, I was wondering what F1's "Crown Jewel" events are. NASCAR has the Daytona 500, Brickyard 400, Coke 600, Amp 499 and Southern 500 as it's historic/premier events. I'm curious as to which Grand Prix are the "big ones".

I think these are all my questions for now. It's hard getting into F1 here in rural Indiana where hardly anyone even knows that it exists, but I'm determined to broaden my motorsport tastes and gain an appreciation for a sport that I've always respected very much.

You have almost the perfect guy to pull for - Michael Schumacher...except he doesn't stop at the part after "BUT".

Another guy might be Juan Pablo Montoya...but he's no longer an option.

Oh and your 2nd question....undoubtedly Monaco, nicknamed exactly that in F1. Other traditional tracks which are almost 'revered' are Spa (Belgium), Monza (Italy), Silverstone (GB).....

You could add Mark Webber, the gritty Aussie to the drivers list.
And Suzuka is somewhat of a biggie as well - the drivers and the fans love that circuit. Montreal as well.

Gritty and boldThat would be lewis Hamilton. Very fast too. I think you should go for him.

Spa- the drives favourite
Monaco-Unique, historical
Silverstone-the home of motorsport (im a bit biasd about that one because i go everyear)
Canada-good tack/race/atmosphere

I think the best choice in my opinion for you to follow would be Vettel! I'd say Lewis too but since(after) 2007 he's been too corporate imo,and I'm a big fan of his!!

And what can I say about Juan Pablo..............he was the MAN............I"m SOOOO that he's not on the grid

F1 track Monaco for sure! But the two trophies for F1 are drivers and the constructors championship!

You see I am very different! I support a team where as some support the drivers! But that is because if you compare this to football! It's a team sport! I feel this way with F1.

So you have to decide if your backing a team or supporting a single driver? Of course when their is a national you would want them to do well.

But I am same as you I don't have a national so I have stuck with a team!

Vettel or Hamilton...Both drivers are aggressive and are willing to take risks to win...

Lewis fits the bill for most of that really.

I've always been a team fan in most sports...As for F1, I'm a mclaren fan but the drivers I support vary depending on the situation...In the current mclaren lineup, I'm supporting button because of his smooth driving(I prefer smooth over aggresive driving)...

For your case, vettel, lewis, or michael seems to be the perfect driver for you...

I would add Kamui Kobayashi to the list if you want to follow one of the new drivers instead of one of the established ones.

I would say you are looking for Mark Webber or Robert Kubica. Both are gritty and known to have the "If you going to overtake me, its not going to be easy" sort of attitude.

For the Crown Jewel i would say it would be Spa, Monza, Abu Dhabi, Monaco, Sazuka and Singapore.

Spa would probably be the best race in my opinion.

In terms of a driver that does what it takes to win but isnt dirty, you can rule Alonso, Webber,Vettel,Schumi out, as they all participate in acts from arrogant hand waving, to crashing out others to win titles, to getting all pissy when your overtaken and just ramming people off track, to taking out your own teammate and calling him crazy for it , and look to Hamilton, Kobayashi, Button.


As for the jewel races it depends on whther you want to include tradition or wealth, or both, in my opinion the jewel races are:

Monaco
Great Britain
Belgium
Italy
Brazil
Canada
Japan
Australia

These above are the traditional races that always provide something

These below are what more the modern Jewels, if only for the vast wealth surrounding them and gimmicks, but a lot of fans do like these tracks:

Singapore

wuh oh, sorry if that sounded a bit wrong so i understand your questioning, i meant it simply in being full american wheras someone might be quarter irish, or half italian, not that being pure american is any better or worse, what i meant is full american, like american dad and mum/mom.

I was asking anyway so that if they were to say part italian i could show them in the direction of ferrari, or part english mclaren etc.
