Apparently so. It seems that they've managed to avoid amputation but the full extent of the damage is still unknown.

Terrible news for RK (at least his trademark nose seems to be unscathed ). Wish him well for his recovery, but I'm pessimistic and don't think we'll see him this season at all, maybe not even ever again in F1.
A chance for NH or the Hulk? I'm sure Renault Lotus, Lotus Renault (whatever their current name is) are already feverishly weighing their options, with attorneys looking into their contracts, and experience some healthy traffic from sidelined drivers knocking at their doors...

Not good news from autosport - appears that his hand was in fact partially severed (I know there were some rumours, but these are now from an official source). Still, operation seems to have been successful as far as it can be for now. Here's the link...
