I think they should have it for around 300m before a pre decided braking zone so that the car has a slight speed advantage which will still allow the car in front to defend and make the whole thing look more authentic.
#237790
What's the point. Even 600m is a very short distance considering the speed these guys hit.

I propose the best solution to just superglue the damn wings so they remain still throughout the race.
#237791
Spanky, that's why they have come up with the latest regs 'only the last 600m at end of straight'. So the horror scenarios you listed down can't happen.

Mate, I really beg to differ, but, even if we leave the passing aside, how does a faster car get away from the slower car?

Also, IMO, more than half a kilometer is plenty of room to pass, especially with the closing speed the drivers are describing.

Plus, remember this year the tow will be there but the turbulence from the DDD's wont be there, so car can sit far more comfortably behind another car.

Lastly, this whole changing it this late show how little everyone knows about how it's going to work. I think this above everything is my biggest beef. For god sake test it! If it's such a great idea, test and refine it at an appropriate level of racing - don't make F1 the guinea pigs!!

I just thought of the use of both rear wing and KERS together...if the rear wing can make such a difference, just imagine double power!

More of Webber-Heikki at Valencia, please FIA...thank you very much.

im still pretty confident it will work tbh.

On that we can agree... it will work (ie have an effect).

What no-one can possibly know for sure is how it will work... and I can see a plethora of bad effects

in turn i agree, i believe it will work definitely in effect, but in the "artificial" etc arguments, well again i think itll be ok.

The only good scenario I can come up with is when you've got a train of cars.

What I don't understand is, after one the greatest most exciting seasons overall for F1 (ok, a few circuits suck but they can either fix or change those), why are they hell bent on radical change? A bit of the "if it works don't fix it" logic would go a long way here.

And, as I've said, if this is such a good idea, prove it, test it, refine it in an appropriate place - but don't make F1 the guinea pig for it. When they know how its going to work, then they can make firm rules.

It does worry me what Kubica and Rosberg said about the MRW in their press conference in Valencia!

They should use sound effects through their earphones to indicate the status instead of having them look at lights:

If they go through the corner before the straight less than a second behind someone then they hear the sound of the deathstar preparing to fire.

Other sounds like some sort of misfire if they press the button before crossing the line etc. but the drivers could choose whatever they want.

im sure that all the implications have been thought through spanky, but your right on the point about the skill element, how it may make overtaking ''artifical''

Its a cute idea, but the earphones are more prone to failure than the LEDs.

The powers that be don't understand the sport they're officiating.

Because the excitement didn't come from positive racing action, it came from the endless string of cock-ups which made the season unpredictable. I can't remember another season in which so many WDC-leading drivers found so many ways to give away the lead.

If the circuits and/or the nature of the cars makes overtaking impossible, they should just drop the pretense of staging a "race" and crown the driver who takes the pole as the race winner. The FIA already have put all their eggs in the TilkeDrome basket so they have no other recourse but futz with car design to mend what Herr Hermann has bollocksed.

I have more dislike for the wing thing... because its artificial and cartoon-like. The guys up there are playing too much Mario kart.
Being able to pass because the car behind can hit a magic button to get an unequal advantage means much less than being able to pass because he was better on the brakes, the line, his tires etc.

The same goes for having to pay attention to whether a certain wing option is flashing...... much less racing than paying attention how to out brake or steal the turn's sweet spot to the guy in front.

I can just imagine Alonso throwing bananas out of his car at his opponents.

Ans then next year Bernie will finally go through his wonderful shortcut idea! :hehe:

I'd say the horror scenario is the wing itself...

Nah, if you don't consider the Tilkedromes, there were still plenty of good races last year.
