I have to agree that i was waiting for something to happen because i wasn't sure if it was the actual car they were putting together. I though the real car was going to be lowered onto the Vodafone sign lol. But once the car was made whole i was in no doubt it was the 2011 car.

I will say it looks like the McLaren launch was VERY cool, they brought out a skeleton of the car, and then build out the car piece by piece placing each aero component on it one at a time... a good job of showmanship, it would have been fantastic to see the thing being put together. Because of this, there are A LOT of great images floating around. Like this one.

Exhausts pointing out the back like they should.

Very radical evolution of the MP4-25. I described the launch MP4-25 as a Torpedo with sidepods. The MP4-26 is even more torpedo-like with those badass L-Sidepods. If she's as fast as she is pretty, Milton Keyes has a problem

The engine was plastic so Mclaren might be hiding something, possibly FFE?

That seems needlessly elaborate. The engine was plastic presumably because they didn't exactly need to waste a real engine for a car whose only job was to allow the press to gawk at it.

Probably just didn't want to show everyone the packaging in there, what with KERS etc etc etc...

Yes of course your right in saying it was there because they didnt really need a real engine there but maybe they chose to lay out the plastic exhausts in the rearward fashion so as not to reveal the workings of the FFE.

This is pure speculation, i would be surprised to see it but just giving a topic to think about.

Also if you look some pictures of the back of the car, above the diffuser, the layout is quite messy which either means that they are going to clear it up or they dont plan on exhaust fumes blowing over the top of the diffuser.

It's a possibility, but it looks to me like McLaren have other tricks up their sleeves. Take a look under the nose. And consider all the clean air being channeled to the rear wing by those schmexy sidepods. Be fun to see what they're up to when it takes to the track, huh?

I think the Renault is my fave though. I'm a sucker for nostalgia, and bringing back the old Lotus JPS livery just so does it for me

I cant believe people found THAT impressive? It was so lame and boring, I honestly cant think of a worse way to launch a car!

They try to make it look as if normal people are bringing the pieces of the car over when you obviously know its just some Macca crew in disguise or some people they paid.
Even when putting it together it was so casual, as if they really didnt care.

I would have expected some guys to come flying down on parachutes, crawling through the floor and breaking through windows just to deliver the pieces, but instead they all just walk over and bolt it together.

It was just awkward.

What i would have done is. Have Lewis or Jens drive the skeleton of the car over, do a few donuts so that we can see what an F1 car looks like naked and running and then bolt on all the pieces as if they were doing it in a pitstop. Now that would have been cool.

If you spent a little more time reading and a lot less time talking, you'll get better grades in school.

Thanks for the personal attack, but if your really keen i will send you my GCSE scores and you can decide for yourself eh?

Its even sweeter when it comes from a mod. Who do i look for justice now?

what you said was pretty fair, infact totally fair, its just your gonna get responses like this when it seems all you do is berate those you dont support, show me a post of yours in which you compliment say mclaren, without a follow up negative point etc, and youll prove me otherwise wrong. But the consistent light bashing gets tiresome, and that wasnt really a personal attack, calling your mother a ***** is an attack, not the comments WB just made which every user bar none make on here.

If your looking for justice go tell the other mods, theres more then one.

As for the car, im confident that such radical changes could give the british innovation another feather in the cap here, ugly car imo, but if it turns out to be a winner, its looks are on the inside, beauty.

Like i said and now further provened, the innovation scale even from 2010 has seemingly gone through the roof for 2011. Every team has something or other the others dont.

I'm sure Macca did the unveiling in such way for one reason.................to throw everybody else off  keep them thinking about Macca instead of their own cars!!
Besides the chassis, nothing else on that car was real or 2011 ish.....the whole nose doesnt even match, the paint is different shades, the red stripes are crooked

We havent seen anything.................yet..............and so have the competitors!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you all doubt the reason why it was unveiled in such akward way......................think again

:irked: Why did the F150 get it's own thread and we have to discuss the MP4-26 in the common car launch thread? :D

Because the F150 went first; and god helps those who wake up early. ;)

You could "read" the forum guidelines and know you could turn to my boss the guy in pink, if you have an issue with a moderator.

Very good looking car, well done Macca.

Lots of interesting things and a clear and genuine attempt at innovation, congrats to the team on that also.

I think the presentation was excellent and I applaud the teams that work, not only on the substance (the car) but also the presentation. This show respect and concern for the fans, so good points for them on that front also.

One thought did occur to me, with so much new and different on this car, there was little danger in showing it at Valencia. If it was very fast it would take the other teams a long time to work out which innovation was the generating the biggest result.

I am wondering if the MP4-25 used at Valencia is a genuine possibility to be used as the 2011 car, or at least for part of the year? An MP4-25 "B" spec. The reason I say this is because they must have so much to test and evaluate on the new car and there was always only going to be four sessions to do it. Probably not enough. And, although you design things in the hope and belief they will work, all engineers know there is always the possibility of unexpected results.

I'll now have a dig at the stupid moronic testing ban. The stupidity of it is that, McLaren have brought a lot of new ideas to the table, and, their reward is they cannot test them? They get the same time to test as cars that brought basically nothing new, or a copy of something they know works from last year.

Lastly, if they did use a modified 25, it would not necessarily be a negative thing. I remember not that long ago a certain red team didn't race their new car until a few races into the season - and that strategy worked pretty well for them.
