What a strange actuator solution for the movable rear wing! Also, note the relative sizes of the two rear wing elements, compared to say the Ferrari. That must have an impact...

The implementations of the rear wings seems to be the biggest point of difference so far, the C30 looks completely different as well.

I certainly hope not...but very very interesting so far! Can't wait to see the (best for) last launch though.

wtf guys that sauber looks good, i like all the teams cars so far, and is it just me or is there already loads of controversial(potentially) differences between the cars, and we'beve only seen half of them.

I think the whole field (probably not with the inclusion of Hispania) will tighten up a lot in terms of pace and therefore making it an even more amazing season!

Words like ‘aggressive’ and ‘innovative’ are very much in vogue in Formula One at the moment, but where the R31 is concerned we feel that those adjectives are appropriate. It’s true to say that the car has been designed in an ambitious manner and a quick glance at the layout will confirm that its entire concept differs considerably, not just from last year’s car, but from any car this team has ever produced. Those changes represent our attempt to extract the absolute maximum aerodynamic performance from the regulations, which have changed quite significantly for this year, and to further develop the concept of using the exhausts to blow the floor.

That's probably what fuelled the rumours about the exhausts blowing from the front. Personally I can't see it, the packaging would be a nightmare and the aerodynamic losses would be huge working the exhaust gases that far. They probably just blow directly through the floor. Also, just because you can't see something doesn't mean it isn't there, Renault could have a less radical solution, but one which they don't want the competition to see and have simply covered them up. Remember Red Bull last year putting stickers where the exhausts were expected to be.

I feel a bit let down by the Renault livery, it just looks messy. Admittedly not as messy as the Sauber.

How does the Front blown defuser idea work? I would of thought that it would cause massive issues with getting the exhaust lengths tuned etc

Most guessing I've seen says sidepods area. Some say over another diffuser others suggest its just channeled back. Personally, I think this will end up being another RB like stunt from last year where they used those stickers to cover their blown exhaust. Probably just made a cover to hide the outlet. Lets see how it looks when Petrov trundles it out today.

This is the most plausible "depiction" I yet have seen:



With the car in motion, blowing the exhaust gas under the chassis reduces dynamic pressure and increases downforce. Blowing it under the front of the tub allows it work along its entire length instead of just the last couple of feet as last year's designs did.

But it would seem to come at considerable cost, including added weight and compromising the space within the side pods. And, as you note, possibly peak horsepower, which isn't something Rinnow has had in surplus.

The only thing certain at this juncture is it has no clearly visible exhaust exits.

and that it had to be flat like this


now these are the only two diffusers i've seen so far for this year so i'm a bit unsure.

Do you think Ferrari found a new loophole that the others haven't?

Edit (my bad i've seen another picture of the diffuser and i can see that it is indeed flat with the v shape on top.)

There's a lot of stickies in the Renault as well... but they're better placed so they dont look as out of place.
"Unfortunately" for Sauber, the Telmex dude owns like 4 different phone companies, so its all the same branding... with 4 different logos and names

Sauber needs to refine that livery ASAP. Looks like someone played 'pin the tail to the donkey'...........

Just my opinion here, but I don't actually think the flatness has a bearing whether a diffuser is single, double, triple etc. I think the flat/squareness comes from the original restriction on the diffuser which defined a box shape 1metre x 175 x 350 deep. The double and triple diffusers comes from when you create and additional source(s) that feed from outside the diffuser through holes which further accelerates the air and increases the negative pressure.
