Well it looks like a great career is coming to an end. Mercedes confirmed they are looking for other potential candidates for their test driver since they already have two Germans, Nico and Micheal, Mercedes also confirmed Kobayashi and Perez and showing Heidfeld the door. Its a sad day when teams are all about money and not talent. Its weird when you see Petrov can't drive to save his life and Heidfeld can't find a ride to save his life :irked:

I agree with your view on the unfairnes of heidfeld not getting a drive, but not on your summation of Petrov. He's new to it and I think he's not bad. As a rookie ..not as good as the best but has shown potential. Give him a chance.

Pitiful. Last time such a high calibre driver was pushed out was Heinz Harald Frentzen...now Nick. He could compete with the likes of the best on the grid but because he does not make much waves offtrack, he's gone. :(

Sad to see him go, definitely better than some drivers on the grid.

Loved watching that black helmet of his last year in the Sauber. I think he will now go into endurance racing as he cant step into a lower class single seater and hold his dignity.

Why is everyone picking on Vitaly? Is not like guys like Kovalainen,Buemi,Alguesuari,Glock have lit F1 on fire!!

Petrov is a HERO to a lot of people

Count me in anyday.

Kovalainen is the only one comparable to Petrov, as they've both massively underperformed. Petrov still has a lot of room to improve, though; waiting to see what he does this year. Buemi and Alguersuari need a half-decent car to show if they're good or not; Glock is so much better than Petrov it's not even funny.

As for Heidfeld, his absence from the grid is a sick joke. He's up there with the best; he was Kubica's teammate for 3 years, and beat him on 2 of them. Now Kubica is rated as a top notch driver while Heidfeld is out... not that I don't like Kubica - I do - but I just know that if Heidfeld was in the second Renault seat, they would've easily beaten Mercedes last year, for instance. Hell, he was pulling fastest laps in the Sauber, using the same engine for a gazillion times because De La Rosa had blown all of them already. Wherever he goes, I hope he adapts and wipes the floor with his opposition - maybe then F1 teams will notice what they're missing.

Nothing with Petrov but if F1 is all about winning now, then why not put Heidfeld into the race seat and Petrov as a test driver so he can develope his skills. Petrov is nowhere near Heidfeld's skills, they are not even in the same park, not even in the same country, rookie or not.

Nothing personal against anyone's hero but has Petrov "lit F1 on fire"? You can add Petrov to ^^^^^ that list. At least with Kovalaninen in the McLaren, while he's no Lewis, he was competitive with the car, with Petrov, he was Kubica's boy toy.

It's a real shame that Heidfeld finds himself without a seat. If only he could have improved his only real weak area - qualifying - I'm quite sure he would have won a race or two and likely held a larger advantage over Kubica than he did when they were team-mates. As it was, he outscored him over their total time together at BMW even with that qualifying deficiency, so I find it strange to see the difference between their careers at this stage. I'd like to see him find a seat in Indycar where overtaking is possible, qualifying not so much of an issue and rolling starts. I think he'd be very successful under those conditions.

It was his first year,he had a bad overall season but showed sparks in a few races! I agree that Nick should be in F1 along with Hulk!

Maybe it's time for guys like Rubens,Trulli even Schumi to hang em up for good!

its a shame that heidfield looks likely to end his formula1 career, considering how good he did while at bmw, with kubica, and i actually asked james allen about petrov and he thought he did well at the end of the season (bar korea) and plus he gives renault good business being russian
