107% Rule returns.

The FIA want to create and destroy new teams in a matter of months.

They MUST be run by Ferrari........

yeah
I hate it how each race basically revolves around 3 giants: McLaren, Ferrari, and Red Bull :(

Personally I think there is far too much emphasis being placed on overtaking. To me, these changes simply give an advantage to a driver for being slower.

I can watch a soccer game and see 2, 3 or 4 goals and feel I've seen a really exciting match. I can watch a basketball game with 250 points scored and leave before the end because it's boring.

Everyone knows I'm a Ferrari fan, but it's probably fair to say that when you rank the drivers who will probably be fighting for the Championship this year, both Fernando and Felipe, in terms of overtaking skills, would be behind Lewis, Mark, Seb, Nico and Kubi. Which means the Ferrari pair might be the big gainers from this change. But I still don't like it.

So because overtaking is trendy we hand artificial tools to a slower guy, who is behind, to get passed the faster guy. I don't like it one bit.

Lets say Lewis gets pole in Bahrain, lets say he leads from start to the penultimate lap, with Nando following and the rest not close enough. What incentive does Nando have to even try and pass until that lap - none. So Nando follows, conserves, and makes sure that he is close on the main straight for that penultimate lap. We all know Lewis is faster, and we know the McLaren is faster on that day, but Nando presses the "magic" button, gets an massive speed advantage down the straight, Lewis is really constricted in how he can defend - "voila" Nando wins, the best, fastest guy comes second and we got a precious/fake overtake.

Be careful what you wish for cause you just might get it.....

You’re just kidding, Spanky. Aren’t you? Or have you plans to become more popular between the Lewis fans? I’m pretty sure that you’re far cleverer than what you’ve written.
About Felipe, I’ve heard that he has received an important offer to play the leading role in the Brazilian remake of Taxi Driver.

Maybe he's just being realistic...instead of believing in Santa Claus, fixed Abu Dhabi races, and the World ending 2012 theme.

Its revolving around safety and the fact that not any Tom D ick and Harry can come in and start racing their cars around the track. I believe this is a very fair rule, and we don't want cars which are so much slower trudging around the track and ruining the spectacle.

This rule will make people think twice in regards to whether they have the financial muscle to enter the show and race cars which are respectable. If not, stay out.

Apartently the Pirelli tyres will make teams do 2/3 stops instead of just 1 in 2011? Can anyone confirm this for me?

Yes. Pirelli has confirmed they are focused on improving the 'spectacle' by deliberately making tyres which aren't as durable as Bridge's.

Ultimately, the only way to increase overtaking is to reduce the dependency on aero efficiency and grip. This is compounded by the fact that the biggest teams have the biggest budgets and the biggest aero programs that widen the gap to the mid-field runners.

In my opinion the FIA should produce a single standard front and rear wing for common use across all teams. That would create aero parity and a greater importance on mechanical grip.

Hopefully it will also keep the pay drivers out as teams will realize that there is no point in having the money if the car cant qualify.

no one would have been caught out by it last year, and wait till a big name gets left off a GP because they crash before Q1 a la Alonso.

rule states
that they can go on pratice times, so unlesa alonso
bins
in straight away as he leaves the pits for practice 1, and it isnt fixed by q1, hell still be allowed to race.

And tracks don't gain 3 or 4 seconds sometimes as they rubber in? The rule will inevitably catch a favorite out... I can't wait of the complaints then.

In the past, the stewards had some discretion and allowed drivers to race despite failing to meet the 107% rule. I'd imagine such discretion will be used on a case by case basis this coming season as well and will thus, accommodate your scenario.

I get it, as long as it's Virgin, HRT or Lotus, then the rule applies, for everyone else it's a guideline.

Pretty much. If a Virgin driver doesn't get to race, Bernie will simply shrug it off. If a McLaren or Ferrari driver gets caught out by the rule, Bernie loses a wing in one of his daughters' new home and some sleep as well :hehe:
