Hi,

Obviously, teams can change their driver line-up at any time throughout the season, but can a driver change teams mid-season? I can't recall a instance where this has happened before, but I guess that doesn't mean it's not possible.

I'm assuming that either regulations state they cannot ... or driver/team contracts preclude them from doing this (which would make sense).

Any help would be gratefully received.

Jarno Trulli was fired by Renault in 2004, so he moved to Toyota for the final two races and onwards. HH Frentzen also moved from Jordan to Prost mid-2001. They are two examples i can think of, but in both cases the driver had been sacked so there was no contractual issues.

i believe they are contracted to do so, and the only reason they last a season is cause by the time contract negotiations are done, its the season end anyway.

Simply put anything can and will happen in F1.

Giancarlo Fisichella went from Force India to Ferrari in 2009.


EDIT: Should have read the complete thread before answering... Jose Lorca had already used this example! In this case though there was contractual negotiations between both teams to release him and allow him to drive for Ferrari. Wonder what FI got out of the deal.

Yep, but obviously whichever team they scored said points for keeps the points.

I don't know much about the sport to be honest, but contracts are just contract, you can break them. There are penalties for doing so, but you can.
