schumi and Alonso will be battling it out this year no doubt

And Nico will spectate??

Or unless they will be battling for 6-7-8th spots! than I agree

Yeah while Narain Karthikayen storms away at the front.

[What's Burning?]

We'll see the usual suspects battling it out. I hope to see Mercedes not simply be a runner up, but fighting for podiums consistently, the more competition the better. Maybe Alonso fears a competitive Schumacher, and that's understandable, but to single him out as the competition is being dismissive of quite a bit of other talent.

I've said before and I'll say it again, Mercedes will give him the benefit of the doubt for half of the calendar, but I wouldn't be surprised to see him leave the driver's role if he continuously and clearly is being outperformed by Rosberg.

I have to disagree with you in that point. In my opinion Michael Schumacher isn’t at Mercedes only as a driver. His role, in my opinion, will be very important even when he retires as a driver. I feel he´s very implicated in a long term project with Mercedes.

I've said as far back as the middle of last year that Schumacher winds up moving out of the driver's role he may be offered some type of principal role or part ownership in the team. It's the best way to remove him from driving gracefully and harmoniously.

Even though he will still have 1yr left to drive and I hope he does I tend to agree that sooner or later he will most likely move into a different role within the team, guess we'll findout eventually.

Figured this would be as good a place than any for this addition , sorry the link is in German I believe but basically it states that MS didn't use the simulator much last year because he got sick in it. Whereas Nico used it often and prepared himself to find the ideal setup for each track. In contrast MS had to start his race weekends with a base setup and lost precious time getting towards the ideal setup.

I would imagine that the simulators utilized by F-1 teams are using the latest technology in visual and motion systems in " real time " 60Hz. Assuming you can maintain latency under 350 ms, platform mass should not be a factor. Onset cues and washout algorithms are a crucial element in motion based simulators. For those who drive your sim, keep their initial drives under 5 minutes , initially in as straight as a road course as possible. The use of a helmet or turning off the right and left monitor helps quite a bit in adaptation as you minimize vection.

Didn't Ferrari use simulators back then? I wasn't informed back then, I guess sim practice was introduced with the testing ban then.

[texasmr2]

Sim practice took over 'real world' ie on track testing info and thus began the downfall we all complain about now.

Prost has added his 2 cents, suggesting that Schumacher ain't going to improve although he'd like to be proved wrong. Kind of how I feel. The positive for me is that Schumi seems to be enjoying himself, despite the lack of results.

Same for me .

Couldn't stand the man when he was sweeping all before him (my choice of avatar was ironic) but I'm definitely warming to him in his latest incarnation and find myself hoping for some success this year.

I can't say I know a lot about Michael, but I know the name and his success. I would consider him a kin to Michael Jordan. Greatest basketball player that will ever grace this earth, retired, came back, was shoddy for one season, and just rolled god damn face for three more years. I know it isn't exactly the same, but even the best of the best get rusty.

I hope he steps up, because I think it would be fantastic to see, Jensen, Hamilton, Alonzo, Vettel, Webber, and Michael duking it out for a championship, and of course if allowed, Felipe massa he seems so out of place at ferrari. I think he should be at williams with Barichello

Not like this. This simulator has (probably) five axes of motion. Before Schumey was kidnapped by space aliens and replaced with some old bloke, they only had four, ...maybe three.

In terms of kinesthetic disturbance, each new axis makes a huge difference.

Sounds DEADLY!

Quotes from Sir Stirling Moss in the current print issue of F1 Racing magazine's "You Ask The Questions" section:

Q. Was it a mistake by Michael Schumacher to come back?
A. Well, that's an amazing question. I think it was entirely wrong, I really don't think he should have done it. I'm not one of those people who think that seven world titles make him any better than number three or four among the greats. Michael is a very talented person, no doubt about that. He took Ferrari when they were nowhere and with a couple of English guys built them up -- because he was a good enough driver. He did a tremendous job with that. But we've never seen him with a good number two. Rubens was good, but not really fast -- we haven't really seen a Vettel-type driver alongside him. So it was wrong that he came back. I think he was lucky to get all those titles, frankly.

Q. Can Schumacher win the title again?
A. No way. He got it because he was in the right car. I'm not saying he wasn't good -- he was very, very good. But if you're talking about the best drivers of the past 30 years I don't think he'd be in my top three, I really don't. He certainly isn't now, that's for sure. Back when he was winning, there were other drivers who were just as good. He did a terrific job, but the best job he did was to bring back Ferrari. That won't be a popular view, but there you are.

And a quote from MSC from another article in the same issue:

"I know the real fans are thrilled by my return and they watch with passion."

Quite obviously, either Schumacher is delusional or I'm no true Scotsman.
