What uni, i was thinking of doing it too before i realised i couldnt bare to share company with bunch of people id hate most likely, that, and the fact that there are less and less jobs going in the UK and i think its best to find one pronto. Theres a girl whos been out of uni 5 months from a physics degree and is working super working class jobs with me at the same temp agency as me cause she cant find one anywhere, what a dire situation to be in.

Oxford Brookes. Average uni but the course is very good, if that makes sense. I know what you mean about people not being able to get good jobsdespite good degrees, my best mate could only got a part time job at the local co-op ffs! Luckily for me i have a couple of good contacts which might help me find something, although i'm just gonna cross that bridge when i come to it. Hopefully the whole economical situaton is on the brink of starting to improve and more jobs will appear in the near future, although i can't pretend to be an expert on that subject so i don't know...

I've spent several years in dead end jobs before this degree and don't want to go back for that, so for me it's a case of put everything i've got into chasing the dream, and i'll MAKE it bloody work :P

We're rooting for you! You know every now and then when a post comes along that says no one here is in an F1 garage so they don't know what's going on. WELL.... we'd be able to to say STFU, we do have someone on the forum that's in an F1 garage. Just don't forget your humble beginnings! :D

+1 We are rooting for you.
+1 We could use a professionals input.

Back in the late '70s or very early '80's the commentators would occasionaly mention a member of the JPS Lotus teams pit crew and how he got his job by just asking the team "I will wash the dish's, the floors or the loo just to get a chance at living my dream". I want to believe that that kinda thing still exist but the main problem today is getting connected with the right people who have those contacts but tenacity is the main thing.

Go get 'em Scotty:wink: .

I completely agree 100% that tenacity is the key. I am living proof of that as it's basically how I ended up in my job. When I was doing my undergrad I decided that I wanted to get into researching and teaching the law, and I basically (whilst working hard to make sure my grades were the best not just in my class or department, but whole faculty) bugged people in the positions that could make things happen, just by continually asking questions about how I could get into that line of work, what I would have to do etc. At first they tried to fob me off by saying I needed this qualification or that qualification on top of what I already had - but if I got them then come back in a few years.

I didn't accept no for an answer and kept on. Eventually I decided that getting some work published in my honours year might help and I wrote some stuff that turned some heads.

Eventually I bugged the right people enough that they still said I needed the various qualifications that were a requisite to every new lecturer at the University, but that they would take me on in a junior role as a researcher and pay my fees and put me on courses as a co-requisite rather than pre-requisite. I did everything they asked and more, progressed through various roles until eventually becoming a full time permanent lecturer. :)

Not as glamorous as your goals, but it's what I wanted to do, I could have given up but I chose not to take no for an answer and pursue it until I got what I wanted... which I did.

You can do it too. Definitely! Good luck! :)
