I really get the whole gun ownership in America thing. I had one when I lived there, hubby was a cop and we lived in a high crime area. That being said, I think guns are awful, hideous things. I hate them with a passion and just hope that in the future some technology will develop where it will be impossible for a criminal to fire one (not buy, because there is no way around that). There should be some kind of fingerprint recognition on triggers in the future.....

Guns save lives, people kill people and family's thats a fact. Heck I went on a date yesterday and had to remove my gun and cuff's because they made her feel uneasy and she knew I'm a police officer!! Yet she would have been the first to pull one out, no second behind me  , if she felt her life was in danger.

Our gun law's here have a restriction that if you are a felon (convicted) you cannot ever carry one. A convicted felon can only keep a 'long gun' at their home after being leased from probation after 5yr's. As far as the recognition aspect that technology may be here already but it is super secret.

This discussion kinda makes me laugh for the simple reason that a crook will be the first one too call 911 when he is jacked. So in closing you do not take a knife to a gun fight, better to be prepared to offer up the same retaliation than to have a funeral.

Just interested to know someone like Tex's view on gun laws over there.

Well it's nice that you asked instead of making uninformed statements. We get alot of nonsensical and uninformed opinion's I just try too helpout with how it is over here and always with good intentions.

i hope that isnt a dig at me, what i believe is truth imo, the gun laws are a joke, i see myownalias agrees.

relax...no one is digging, and BTW the gun laws are not consistent from state to state, PA one of the more laxed states in the east, cross over to New Jersey and it's one of the strictest in the country. Go figure.

The problem is the definition of a gun, I understand why Pennsylvania is the way it is, simply because it's a big hunting state where NJ is not. But there is nothing that differentiates a shotgun or a hunting rifle from a semi automatic human killing machine that you can buy over the counter on the spot only showing a driver's license in a dozen states.

ok fine but i cannot accept "guns save lives" they are designed specificallu to kill, even in the case that theyre used for markmandhip, the targets arw shaped as people. fair enough police use tjem, not civilians, thats obscene, and with the problems like gangs and racial tension, oh dear.

south park and family
guy
to amnextent are good at highlighting it.

how weird, just mentioned gun control on american dad, to which he replied. " you dirty left wing liberal"

For the record I have no problem with guns; but I believe that a unified inter-state law on purchase of guns needs to exist with a tighter reign on who is issued with a gun permit, although I do agree with FRAFPDD that a gun is a gun; whether it's 9mm handgun or a minigun or hunting rifle, they can all kill in the wrong hands! The same laws should apply across the country for all types of gun. I read too many stories of kids getting hold of guns because of irresponsible parents often with fatal outcomes.

As always I believe that we have to be conscious about reality, and reality is that there are around two hundred millions or more (if I’m not wrong) weapons in people's hands. You can hate them or love them, there’s nothing to do. As many others prohibitions it wouldn’t work and it could make things even worse with a black market and firearms only in hands of criminals.
In an ideal world I believe that any machine designed to kill people is something criminal in his own purpose, but we don’t live in an ideal world and we have to think about the consequences before taking decisions. No sane and honest person likes kill, extortion, threaten…… other people, but it happens, and we won’t avoid it by banning the guns at this moment. It’s something demagogic when a politician defends it or uses it to attack other politicians, because guns can’t be banned at the USA without severe consequences.
It’s something similar to the alcohol prohibition, but even worse, apparently is good but in the reality isn’t.

Although the gun discussion is certainly pertinent, I'm of the opinion that the core issue is what I stated off the bat, the following is a quote from the local Sheriff Clarence Dupnik.

"When you look at unbalanced people, how they respond to the vitriol that comes out of certain mouths about tearing down the government. The anger, the hatred, the bigotry that goes on in this country is getting to be outrageous," he said. "And unfortunately, Arizona, I think, has become the capital. We have become the mecca for prejudice and bigotry."

Impoverished and ruined people, because of the economic crisis are in their right to criticize politicians, because I believe, they and bureaucrats are the main responsible for what it is happening. But in my opinion, are the own politicians who use the people’s anger against other political factions in a manipulative and dangerous way. I imagine that, as usual, none of them will be punished for this murder.

I said the same thing on page 1, just a bit more forcefully and bluntly:
Yeah, disgusting. Looks like in the past few years Arizona has taken over Texas as the most insane, retarded, backward and right-wing state in the union (closely followed by Alaska and Utah  ).

Guns save lives

Guns kill people.

So do pen's, knives, bricks etc etc thats why almost any instrument can be considered a deadly weapon. Your not looking at it in the correct perspective, just my opinion, and thats surprising coming from you since you were once married to a police office. People kill people it's just that a gun is an easy scapegoat for most, I realize though that non-law enforcement individuals may have a different outlook than us. :)
