The online Gilles Villeneuve profile below, from the November Vintage Racecar mag, reckons his partnership with Ferrari was the most magical of all. But how about Ferrari/Schumacher, Clark/Lotus, or Senna/McLaren? My vote is Clark/Lotus:

There was no magic between Schumacher and Ferrari. Although they got on well, it was motivated in a businessman-like fashion.

I'm inclined to agree with them about Gilles Villeneuve and Ferrari. For me, though, it was the good old days of Marlboro McLaren-Honda and Ayrton Senna. There will never be an era as good as that in Formula One again.

Had to edit to add my opinion. Ferrari/Villeneuve were magic but they unfortunately were cut short to fully realize the potential they had. MS and Ferrari are the greastest team put together in term's of result's in F1 history, one driver and one team, we all know that cannot be disputed.

It just re-enforces my total admiration for Giles.
My pick is Gilles/Ferrari – not because of what they did together, which was tragically cut short & we can only dream about what might have been, but for what it stood for.

A total passion for racing.

I think if you're talking about a total passion for racing Senna is still above Villeneuve. He was just the ultimate perfectionist, whereas Gilles was simply much more talented than those he raced against. Talent doesn't take passion, but perfection does, and Senna would just work and work on everything - his car, his attitude, his fitness, his psycology - to make himself the perfect tool for racing.

the magical senna, think if ever there was to be a racing god it would be senna. Schumacher at his peak vs senna would have been legend. but we all know senna would be the better driver. i remeber the interview with Schumacher after he beat one of senna's records he just broke down.

shumi did the same thing from working in the gym to spending a lot of time with his mechanics he was the ultimate perfectionist
