:hehe: :hehe: "A True F1 Fan" :hehe::hehe: anyway

If all teams are the same in F1,do the following...........imagine F1 without HRT,Virgin  Now Imagine without Ferrari,McLaren :yikes:

If the second scenario leaves you in shock..............................

if ferrari and mclaren leave then teams like renault n mercedes then become the top teams, all the first two are are household names, they are just teams after all, seriouslly dont tell me that doesnt make sense.

Yes a true F1 fan, i wouldnt expect you to know what that is
going purely on what ive seen of your opinions.

WHAT????????????????? just teams????????????? THEY ARE FORMULA ONE!!!!!
Any fan knows that those two have more WCC/WDC/wins/podiums/poles/fastest laps than all the rest COMBINED! with Ferrari being the better!
Edit; Have also invested more money, A LOT MORE

But I wouldnt expect you to understand what that means

They have those accolades because they have been in F1 the longest. Logic is your friend.

A team is a team, like i said, if Fer and MC left, then other teams would fill their place, the world goes on despite its many atrocities and tragedies, losing two teams, albeit top teams, will NOT be the end of F1, i ouldnt even dream of watching a rival series OVER F1, F1 is the pinnacle, and its Ferrari and Mclarens loss if they ever leave it. Would you stop watching the world cup if Brazil didnt take part?

You contradict yourself! How would F1 be the pinnacle if the best 2 teams are not in it??

Hm, the World Cup would still be the pinnacle of soccer/football w/o Brazil or Germany or Italy or pick your team(s).

Because in order to be in the World Cup teams go through qualifying and the best 32 take part! It's apples&oranges, weather as in F1 you only have a dozen teams and if you take out the best 2 you're left with lesser teams and fewer fans

The comparison is not too far off: F1 teams have to 'qualify' as well to be admitted to the club. If you want to play it even with quantities, then have 6 teams out of the 32 (roughly the same percentage as 2 out of 12 F1 teams) removed.

Well, if you took the best 6 teams from the World Cup, it wouldn't be such a big thing as well.

Also, about this "pinnacle" thing, with the ridiculous amount of restrictive rules there are in F1 nowadays, I think it's very possible that a breakaway series can spec to cars faster than the F1s.

A break away series could very well bring back some of the creative genius we saw 20 yr's ago and make there own rules opening up the path for various number of cylinders, super or turbocharging etc etc. The only thing is that Bernie should have NO hand in any of it as Luca mentioned something about bringing him onboard as president if it happens.

Lets watch the world cup (without) Brazil,Italy,Germany,Argentina,England and Spain :yikes:

Uruguay would be the only participant to have won it  edit; I knew I forgot the french! I can already see major success

As much people hate to admit it,Scuderia Ferrari&McLaren have been/still are&will always be Formula One! The rest come and go,and without those two it would be Formula Zero!

We could have a Super Six tournament every year and compare the success with the World Cup

I disagree, no one component is bigger than the sport, regardless of how many fans that component has. Formula 1 is Formula 1, no one team is bigger than the sport. Sure if Ferrari and/or McLaren left F1 there would be a slump but it'll recover with new names replacing the outgoing names, if McLaren and Ferrari are F1, let's have 13 Ferrari's and 13 McLarens on the grid. Personally I wouldn't tune in to watch as I like the smaller teams thrown into the mix, that's what makes F1! Small teams come and go, how many people remember (or even heard of) Minardi, Forti, Jordan, Spyker, and Stewart GP? All teams that have come and gone over the past 20 years. but imagine what F1 would have been like without those smaller teams. Smaller teams may not have the financial clout of the Ferrari's and McLaren's of this world but they are just as important!

Your assessment might be true under the assumption that Ferrari and McLaren would simply disappear - whoosh - not exist anymore. Then F1 would continue to be F1. HOWEVER, the more likely scenario would be that those two continue racing in a new series they'd call Formula Turbo or whatever. Fat chance they'd stay by themselves - no! They'll draft other teams away from F1 (and only those two could do that) with the original F1 dying a slow (or quick) agonizing death. Thus, Ferrari and (to a certain extent) McLaren ARE bigger than F1. Q.E.D.

Like Tupac Shakur said: "Wars come and go, but my soldiers stay eternal"

The OP is about breakaway,so imo if Ferrari and Macca were to leave F1 and start a series where they can actually innovate and excel at it,the current F1 would DIE!

1.6 LITTER turbos? 4 motors per racing season? going green? blah bla bl... :banghead: it's becoming Nascar on turbos

I know street racers that go through more than 4 motors

The limit on the number of engines per season is a farce and is one of the most rediculous rules ever implemented imo.

F1er is really right. The last time the idea that the competition is more important than the teams with the fans was followed was by the Athenian League.

Sorry myown, it may be a bitter pill, but IMO, Ferrari and McLaren will grow with or without F1. Most F1 fans are Ferrari/Macca fans first and foremost. That is why LDM can raise the breakaway card as often as he does - because it is a reminder that the key players know and understand - F1 is nothing without those teams and those teams will be followed whatever competition they are in. There will also be no end of teams who want to race them, again no matter what competition they are in.

But, IMO, F1 will stay, just a fairer share of the pie will go FOTA's way and, hopefully, some of the stupid ideas being bandied about will be knocked on the head. :)

Ferrari and McLaren are Formula 1, so how dare the might of Red Bull, a mere six year old win both titles and develop a car that was head and shoulders above the rest!

It's all semantics about what would happen should Ferrari and/or McLaren leave F1; we ultimately don't know what would happen, we can speculate as much as we want but ultimately we don't know what sponsors or the fans would do in 2013. How many neutrals are out there? I consider myself a "team neutral", I don't care what the teams are called; I just want to see good racing, sure there are lots of McLaren and Ferrari fans, and yes they would follow a new series but also would "more than likely" still follow F1. I didn't ditch F1 when I discovered the American Le Mans Series although in many ways I believe that the ALM series is better and more exciting to watch!

Anyway going back to my original annoyance of Ferrari threatening to form a breakaway every time they don't get their way; the latest issue, money and smaller engines, why can't LDM and Ferrari simply go to Bernie Ecclestone and the FIA and talk it over like civilised people instead of throwing breakaway threats into the public domain.

Civilised talks :hehe: I can only assume/imagine it's like the 'Planet of The Apes' in those bored meetings.

Irrelevant to the point F1er made, the vast majority of fans follow SF&Macca - and you know it.

Exact thinking of the leaders of the Athenian League.

At least get your facts right mate, LDM/Ferrari have stated they think the new engine is not good for F1, BUT, they have agreed to accept the FOTA decision - very democratic I'd call that.

As to the "take over" - well that's been raised a few times recently, IMO a little more likely than the "breakaway" :)

Did you mean to write bored meeting? or was that a typo or "Board Meeting":P:hehe:

That was supposed to be a sarcastic comment, maybe I should have used a  .

I seems that I have a different opinion to many on here; maybe it's because I have no allegiances to any team, we'll have to agree to disagree!

Oh and I forgot to add my "blah blah blah" comment to the supposedly 'know it all's', guess who you are??
