Ferrari and Formula 1 are so intertwined that a breakaway series would be disastrous for both parties, same goes for McLaren or even Williams, for McLaren and Williams, F1 is what they do; if it weren't for F1; neither company would exist. I don't like the scenario of Ferrari, McLaren leaving F1 and Bernie offering those two teams more money to stay while the other teams don't get anything extra, if that happens, FOTA will become a joke as that wouldn't be to the benefit of all members!

If all teams are the same in F1,do the following...........imagine F1 without HRT,Virgin  Now Imagine without Ferrari,McLaren :yikes:

If the second scenario leaves you in shock..............................

if ferrari and mclaren leave then teams like renault n mercedes then become the top teams, all the first two are are household names, they are just teams after all, seriouslly dont tell me that doesnt make sense.

Yes a true F1 fan, i wouldnt expect you to know what that is
going purely on what ive seen of your opinions.

WHAT????????????????? just teams????????????? THEY ARE FORMULA ONE!!!!!
Any fan knows that those two have more WCC/WDC/wins/podiums/poles/fastest laps than all the rest COMBINED! with Ferrari being the better!
Edit; Have also invested more money, A LOT MORE

But I wouldnt expect you to understand what that means

I think most people are missing the point. LDM has zero intention of forming a break-away series/competition. Ditto for McLaren. When LDM's raises it, what he's really doing is reminding Bernie et al that the reason most spectators and f1 fans exist is because of Ferrari & McLaren. That's why the "Cry wolf" analogy is not appropriate. LDM knows he has a big stick, and, he raises it as often as needed.

It will be raised every time something important is being negotiated - just to remind everyone of the real lay of the land.

Right now there are two issues being negotiated:-
1) money - all income from F1 which is skewed too far in favor of Bernie. LDM and Macca's will get a bigger share of the pie for FOTA, the issue is how much bigger it will be.
2) control - Again LDM & Macca are doing the work to get a much bigger say in the running of F1. LDM has mooted an NBA style - much more power to the teams. Once this is achieved, and I'm sure it will, we will see far less races outside of Europe and where genuine crowds can be attracted. Races will be rationalized to about 54-57 days. Now that could be 19 3-day events or, perhaps 20+ with some races being 2-day events.

I wonder if the Austin GP will be a 2 or 3 day event?? :D

I just cant come to terms with Austin when there is Indy and Laguna. If it made sense logistics/money wise for the teams to have Canada and USA on back-2-back weekends as 2 day events, then why not?

Can't speak for them but most of the time change is good and if the organizers actually produce what has been promised it could relieve some of your angst, come to Austin sometime and you just might change your tune. Remember Indy was TG's idea yet now that he is gone the chance of it returning anytime soon is unlikely. Also I'm certain Laguna has been approached numerous times but apparently the track owner does not want to invest the $$ to bring it up too the FIA standards, it's not our fault (the US fans).

I think everyones giving Mclaren more credit then they deserve, its literally just Britain in general that support them, and of course a fair few over the world, but 1/3 of all f1 fans are ferrari, if f1 lost mclaren, britain still have their drivers to support, i find people over here are twice as loyal to their driver then their team.

They have those accolades because they have been in F1 the longest. Logic is your friend.

A team is a team, like i said, if Fer and MC left, then other teams would fill their place, the world goes on despite its many atrocities and tragedies, losing two teams, albeit top teams, will NOT be the end of F1, i ouldnt even dream of watching a rival series OVER F1, F1 is the pinnacle, and its Ferrari and Mclarens loss if they ever leave it. Would you stop watching the world cup if Brazil didnt take part?

Your right. Its not like Hamilton is going to be unemployed without Macca.

Surely the point is he'll walk with Macca,

f1 won't have its prestige if they get top teams walking out and setting up a rival series, not as many would watch, sponsors would loose interest and it'd get more difficult financially for the teams left because of this loss of prestige.

If he hasn't got any intention of walking, then it's all bark and no bite, and he'll be in trouble if Bernie calls his bluff.

I agree with the money issue, the balance of interest is far too skewered, towards FOM's commercial interest, rather than the teams's or fans.

Hm, the World Cup would still be the pinnacle of soccer/football w/o Brazil or Germany or Italy or pick your team(s).

Because in order to be in the World Cup teams go through qualifying and the best 32 take part! It's apples&oranges, weather as in F1 you only have a dozen teams and if you take out the best 2 you're left with lesser teams and fewer fans

The comparison is not too far off: F1 teams have to 'qualify' as well to be admitted to the club. If you want to play it even with quantities, then have 6 teams out of the 32 (roughly the same percentage as 2 out of 12 F1 teams) removed.
