I am unsure which side of the fence I sit on with this one. It does tend to level the playing field at the start, but then they go into fuel saving mode and stuff like that. I am curious if before the ban they did this fuel saving stuff as well (Since we didn't hear the radios back then)

no! it made 'em worse.

The refuel ban was stupid. The strategic part of fuel loads was great; overtaking on the track would be done if the cars could trail others and if the tracks werent so mechanical. Plain and simple.

I agree refueling added another layer of strategy that is now gone. On the other hand, it did make for a much more challenging car design as you have to support a full load of fuel and deliver a car that can work well both light and heavy.

Bad it worse....taken strategy pretty much out of the game actually.....rather sad

I didn't care if someone got pole and only got it because of fuel......you dont get points for quali!!!

I say for Q3 you have your race fuel and start of race tyres on!

The combination of no-refuelling, engine restrictions and compulsory tyre changes (ie. having to run both compounds) has eliminated any "strategy from the sport. It's purely about speed and reliability now.

In my honest opinion, these regulations have now increased to cost of getting to the front of the grid as any aero advantage is huge......and aero advantage costs more than anything else..... for the teams with a tunnel the advantage is multiplied.

I didn't even like the idea of the refuelling ban, and it seems that it has had a detrimental effect on the sport, despite being "the best season ever". Banning refuelling and then forcing teams to use two compounds complete negates the point of the refuelling ban, the whole point of the refuelling ban for me means that teams could run 100% race distance without stopping. I say ditch the refuelling ban and have teams/drivers run different strategies and fuel loads.

Simply another rule change to help the mom-&-pop teams which simply took a dimension and strategy away from F1.

The ban on refuelling didn't drastically improve things in one respect, but at the same time didn't take anything away. Why? Because by the end of the refuelling era we all knew exactly what fuel each driver had at all times, and it was incredibly predictable. So i think we lost nothing really, in terms of being entertained as fans.

I suppose one example of the ban actually helping the entertainment would be Canada - it would have been a much more boring race had there been refuelling, as they'd have just changed the tyres at each stop, removing that unpredictable element of the tyres lasting.

I also enjoyed the refuelling more. Yes this season was entertaining but it was largely due to the fact there were so many drivers in contention for so long. I really liked the extra dimension refuelling added. It also meant the drives could really ring out their tyres a bit more since they weren't running super heavy and had to ensure they only had one stop.

Personally, I think it could be better if they brought refuelling back but made it optional rather than mandatory... Would possibly throw up a lot more options in terms of strategy that could see some interesting results.

Of course some tracks it would be a no brainer, but think about a track like monaco where someone might rather try to take the advantage of quicker pitstops for track position rather than a quicker car, but longer stops and then being forced to overtake...

In fact, do the same with tyres and do away with the stupid mandatory use of each compound, just make it that the drivers can use whatever they want, whenever they want!

The possibility between trying to make it round without a single pit stop (and to the nay-sayers, many drivers DID do that in the 80's when it was possible, so there's no reason tyres can't be developed to do this!), versus someone in a quicker car, stopping for both tyres and fuel twice in a race, losing close to a minute in track time though may be 5 seconds a lap quicker!

I think we'd see a lot more surprise results, different teams winning, mixed teams in the points and a whole lot more overtaking and incidents than we do at present...

So there we go - my opinion, different tyre compounds and refuelling, but all of it opional allowing for much more, and more diverse strategies! Less predictable and more exciting! :)
