I'd love to see a reduction in that stupid chicane cutting though, the drivers aren't punished for their mistakes at all at most tracks.

That stupid chicane cutting is necessary when a mistake is made and thats why they must give back the position gained if there is one, I thought you knew that?

Yes i am aware of that well known fact, but you have completely missed my point apparently. A driver makes a mistake and goes of the track, but loses no real time because of it. Therefore the mistake isn't really punished.

No I did not miss your point I'm just wondering why you think a driver should be punished for making a mistake, it's racing for crying out loud and mistakes will be made. The rule setforth in that a position cannot be gained by going off course is fair but do you want him to be penalised just because he lost no time? What if he is 20sec's ahead of his nearest rival?? Sorry but that seems kinda asinine to me. That would be even more dumbing down of the sport that everyone seems to be complaining about with the new rules already.

Drivers not being punished for mistakes kinda negates that whole idea of having the best drivers win the most races because, you know, they're able to drive around very quickly without going off the time. :hehe: I never said i wanted drivers to recieve drive through penalties or whatever, just that these stupid concrete areas allow drivers to go off and lose no time because they don't have to slow down whatsoever, hence why they aren't being punished! :banghead:

If they have a purely mechanical problem they won't be saving any time in the long run, will they. Also they'll be losing time anyway due to said mechanical issue, regardless of the run off area's surface. I really don't think you got my point.

A similar situation is when drivers run wide out of corners. This is how Massa gained the lead in Germany this year, by going off the track and flooring it on the tarmac around the outside, with no attempt or intention of staying on track. It was a very large part of him being able to retain his lead. Why should that a) be allowed, and b) be even made possible...

I would rather see more gravel traps, at least for the first 20 feet of run off...or ugly, car breaking curbs. It is unfair that a car can fly off the track...and lose very little if any time for the mistake. That doesn't happen in any other motorsport. How about spike strips!?! Oh yeah, I am onto something there. Go four wheels off...and your tires get trashed. I like it
