Given that TC is banned this year, what does everyone think the consequences will be?

Firstly, I think Jenson Button, car permitting, should have a great year as he's been F1's smoothest driver for a few years now - look how he managed to keep a good pace in Japan with no front wing.

Secondly, Hamilton will be even better to watch as he has a very oversteery style that will get more pronounced. He may eat rear tyres a bit quicker though.

Thirdly, top teams will lose some of their advantage as their more sophisticated systems are removed.

Fourthly, race starts should be more exciting, with more cars stalling.

I just wish Giles Villeneuve was around to show them how it’s done.

Giles" I don't have any fear of a crash. No fear of that. Of course, on a fifth gear corner with a fence outside, I don't want to crash. I'm not crazy. But if its near the end of practice, and your trying for pole position
...maybe, I guess... you can squeeze the fear ... "

Enzo Ferrari : " Destiny take away from us a great champion. My life was full of pain and sad memories: my mother, my father, my brother and my son. Now, when I look back I see all the people I loved. And with them there is this great man, Gilles Villeneuve. I loved him. He maneged to remind the legendary Tazio Nuvolari. "

That was one of your best posts Mike, a lovely read, thank you mate...

Had we still had a tyre war I would have said no big deal as the tyre's would be so sticky you would be getting pseudo traction control...

Now we have a single tyre supplier I would hope the FIA tell Bridgestone to harden up the rubber a little to give us a bit of a show...

Anything that takes away from mechanical reliance is a good thing, hoping driver skill shine through a little more and we get a truer picture of who's fast and who's not...

I have to agree about Giles, he was a star!!
I cant wait to see the cars run without traction control, though i have heard that managing the TC and using it to advantage has become something of a drivers skill in itself. Good riddance to it though.
Winners? Has to be Lewis with his driving style, penchant for oversteer and amazing car control.
Loosers? Ive read that Kubica relies heavily on TC so maybe he wont be so good next year.
The rest? Dont know enough about all their driving styles (Montoya would have love it!!! )We'll have to watch the winter testing times . Bring it on!

Finally we agree on something racechick :)
This is one of the reason why Ferrari is so loved & has that inbuilt passion in everything they do that no other team will ever match. (I can picture Ron Dennis right now)

Yes I am looking forward to 2008 for some good hard driver action.
I think with everything that has happened in 2007 plus the new rules, we are in for some interesting times on the track.
Hopefully we are not disappointed.

I've heard that Button is very smooth on the gas pedal, this should be good news for him...

should think button will have a good season, webber i would think will do well. hamilton might have trouble, he may over-steer a bit too much without TC, with his way of driving more likely to spin off. kubica is another who may have a cracking season.

have to agree with you all as well :)

The one possible problem I can see for Hamilton would be tire wear. It's gonna be very important next year. It might take an adjustment of driving style on his part, which is too bad, because I think he's the most fun driver to watch on the grid. He'll adjust though. Too much talent not to.

well he may have a lot of over steer with his style which could result in a lot of fun spins lol

cant agree more. with that.

without tc you need to be smooth and i honestly (and unfortunatly) dont think it will suit hamilton. but i might be suprised. id also expect some of the older drivers coulthard etc to have a cracking season. might be a few upsets.

Of course the other big winners will be anyone who's recently come up from GP2, because they don't have TC, so Lewis's goose is by no means cooked yet. It's people who have been racing exclusively in F1 since 2001 who will stand to lose the most, because they have probably got too used to having that crutch to lean on. They're still excellent drivers though, so as long as they're the sort of drivers who can adapt their style they shouldn't lose too much. FA, however, seems to have suffered from his transition to McLaren and Bridgestone, so perhaps his style is more set in concrete than most.

yeah, will make pit strategy more interesting. might see 3 stops for the likes of hammilton more often and 1 stops for the likes of button. who knows

kimi & jenson will handle the lack of TC very easily it's massa and hamilton that should be worried. Their driving style eats the rear tyres faster than ron dennis with a pie

yeah, hammilton had trouble with his tyres this year as we all know so next year should be a struggle.
